If anyone is moving to Delaware from another state anytime soon or in the future & your vehicle is worth a good deal of money, your gonna be paying out the a$$ for registration here. I lived in FL, now I'm in DE & since my truck was worth over 13K, it cost me nearly $600 just to get registered here but luckily every year here on out will only be $40 per year. It was quite a shock, lol.

We have personal property tax here in Kansas. I pay over $400.00 a year for tags on my 2010 Tacoma! I only paid $54 dollars a year in Ohio.

Yikes, every year?? This was just initial & that was bad enough! FL was about $70/year when I was there. We don't have sales tax here but they make up for it in other ways!!

Here's the detail on fees when bringing a vehicle to Delaware (source)

"Whenever a motor vehicle is brought into Delaware from another state and a title and a registration is sought, the owner must pay a vehicle document fee of 3.75 percent of the value of the vehicle but not less than $8.00, unless the owner presents proof that he/she has paid to such other state, a sales tax, transfer tax or some similar levy on the purchase of the vehicle and must be titled and registered within ninety (90) days prior to registering in Delaware." ~Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles

Uh! Holly shit! For that cost there better not be on single pot hole or hump in any of your roads for that price. I pay $85.00 a year for registration. I'll take that over $400.00. That's shocking.

Yup... The property tax is based on the value of the vehicle each year. In Kansas, I feel I'm being punished for owning a vehicle that holds it's value!!

My wife's 2012 Wrangler is almost $500.00 per year so far.

Ok, now I don't feel so bad since it's only the initial fees that raped me & not highway robbery each year, lol. Thanks for the pep talk! :)

Since he is military he could have kept his registration for his vehicles in MI.

Here in AZ, we get raped on registration/tags. It goes down a few bucks each year but I'll be around $500/yr for a few years and it will go down sloooowly.
