Exhaust Stain on Rear Fender

This has been an ongoing problem on both of my wife's white Gen 2 Tacomas (a 2005 and a 2011). We live on a gravel road and every winter we end up with a gritty stain on the fender above the exhaust pipe. After nine years you would think that Toyota would have a fix for this. They don't. The only thing the has worked for me is to buff off the stain using Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and then apply wax. I do this a couple of times during the winter months. Anyone come up with a better idea? I don't want mess with changing the exhaust.

 

I've got it too. I've tried just about everything short of rubbing compound.

Or best yet don't worry about it and don't do anything about it? It is after all a truck.

These trucks run rich for safety.....not much learning for Toyota to do there besides dump the exhaust somewhere else maybe?

 

One of the problems with having a White vehicle. I guess this is more an issue with the V6 and not the 2.7L 4 banger. I have a 4 banger and the inside of my exhaust pipe is clean as a whistle.

One of the exhaust down turned tips would probably alleviate the problem.

X2 or have the exhaust routed straight out back below the rear bumper.

 

Haven't had down turned tips on tailpipes since 1960. Cool then, not so cool now. Guess I'll keep buffin' and waxin'. Oh, had this issue with my wife's 2005 and it was a four-banger.

It's that time of year. Just did my first compound cleanup and rewaxing. Any other suggestions?

 

I've never noticed this before. Both mine were/are MGM and Pyrite though.

 

My dad had this problem with his 2012 Tacoma. I gave him my OEM Chrome tip after i got my TRD exhaust. We installed the chrome tip so it extended about an inch or more beyond the regular exhaust tip. It actually worked pretty good.

 

Maybe they have fixed it? My '14, V6 only has 6700 miles or so, and the tip and bedsides are as clean as the day I drove it home.

I suspect a low grade of fuel, combined with frequent hard acceleration as a possibility.

 

Problem here will be if you tow or pull anything, you will have carbon deposited all over your trailer.

A buddy of mine with the new Chevy, direct injection engine thought it would be cool to put straight duals on. Drove his new 30' travel trailer 2,000 miles and had a permanent stain from exhaust on the nose of the trailer.

 

I also have this problem on my 'super white', I too would like to hear what some of you have been doing to deal with this. So far all I have been doing is using polish and my DA to get rid of it, wish there was something a little more permanent.

 

It's been a while. Used rubbing compound, polish and wax six weeks ago and the crud is back again. Any further suggestions for a product that will remove the crud. In my case, it is dust mixed in the the condensed water vapor and whatever from the exhaust. It's almost like a layer of brown cement that forms in cold weather. My truck is driven on eight miles of dusty gravel road daily.

 

Did you even try this product that was already posted?

Back again with a 2016 white TRD Off Road. I guess I am a slow learner. Same problem third verse.

Thought some about trying the above suggestion. I'm a little concerned that heat might be a problem with the "bra" adhesive getting messed up. How hard are the bras to remove?

The truck is garaged every night and I'm thinking about keeping a bucket of ONR mix ready to use on the fender after every winter drive.

I think the only "fix" is to reroute the exhaust away from the mudflap and fender. Any pics of this being done?

 

cut the tailpipe off (neatly) at the bottom of the turndown where it bends to come out beyond the body.

 

Had a shop cut mine just before the last hanger, welded on a turndown tip, then re welded the hanger back. $30 and no more exhaust shitting on the super white

@tguil this may be a solution for you. I also like how theres not a plain jane stock pipe hanging out the side of the truck now. It cleaned up the look to my liking as well...

 

Interesting...haven't had this problem. Seems that it only happens in the winter when the fuel blends aren't as clean. I don't know that we run such a "dirty" winter blend here in SC so maybe that's why it hasn't happened? Or maybe it's because I clean both vehicles ever week...
