    Hi there,

First post here. Been lurking for awhile. I've currently got a situation here where I need some advice from you guys.

I currently own a '12 access cab and was looking to trade for a double cab for more room. Went to the dealer and he told me 2014 are not yet available so we priced out a '13 and we agreed to a price and he asked me to sign a price agreement to hold the price on one. I didn't have any issues so I signed it but we didn't pick a color for one yet as he said I could do that later. The next day I applied for the lease application with their finance guy over the phone, I just gave him person info to process application. Next day I was reading the paper and saw an ad for 2014 Tacoma's. I called a few other dealerships and they all told me they all have them in. I asked my sales guy about 2014 again and he told me "most are not in until December", that is when I told him I called a bunch of dealers and they all have them in. He apoligised and told me he would look into it, and this time he told me he could get them in now but we agreed to purchasing the '13. I know I should have done all my research first, but I feel as though he knew but was lying to me all along.

I have not picked a color or have signed anything with regards to financing or leasing papers and of course have not taken delivery. I may not want a '13 if the 14's are now in, depending on price which I have not yet discussed with the salesman.

I want to know my options now before I go talk with them tomorrow. We may try and price out a '14 and he may not make it look appealing so I go back to getting a '13 but I want to make sure to let him know I will shop around if I don't like what I hear.

What options do I have and am I stuck having to purchase the '13 from this dealer?

    Thanks in advance!
(Not a great first post, but my next thread will be "happy owner of a new Tacoma" - weather it be '13 or '14)

I do not know how a price agreement works without a deposit and/or a VIN of a truck ......
    no deposit??? see ya
I would think it is harder to pick a color of 2013 since the 2014's are out....like not in December.
Price of holdover 13s should be better than 14s if you are not picky with color or packages.
Good luck & email lots of dealers in your area ask for best price OTD.

Tell him the other dealer will get you what you are wanting and not trying to sell you in their '13 they are wanting to get rid of. I love walking from a dealer when the sale is close. They sure do quit messing around and take things a little more serious.

I would walk too. Unless of course you're getting a deal on a 13. Not that it matters much anyhow as it's the same truck.

well its a price agreement, not a purchase agreement. different things. but a price agreement favors the dealer anyway since it locks you into a set price which could go lower but wont.

like when i pre-ordered my 2014 4runner, the new car gm gave me all the info and even a final price they are selling it to me, but no where did i sign anything and he repeatedly stated i am not bound to buying/etc.

a honorable dealer wont hold you to anything, even a price agreement.

personally i would walk away from that dealer and find someone else, but then again i have no qualms about driving 100 to 200 miles to the other dealers in the state to get a good deal which happens alot in my town by looking at the dealer stickers on the back of new purchases.

but since i havent had a raw deal from my current in town dealer in decades, i dont have your issue.

(note that i did have a bad encounter when they had a new trade in appraiser who gave me a stupid trade in price so i went to another dealer 100 miles away that gave me the same deal but $2100 more on trade in. needless to say, he didnt last long. i suspect they lost too many sales with his stupid values)

    but overall ymmv :)

Never sign anything unless you are positive you know and fully understand what you are signing. If that means you have to leave and do research before you sign a document, DO IT! It is impossible to answer your question without reading what you signed. This may be an expensive lesson about signing papers without all the details.
You need to ask the dealer what your options are if you do not understand what you signed.
After that you will be able to make a decision about what you want to do. I wish you the best.

If they want the sale then they will make the same deal on a 14. Otherwise go to another dealer.

I don't think anyone here can tell you what to do w/out actually reading what you signed. Since you haven't put any money down and there's no scheduled delivery/purchase date (unless you've left that out), I would ask to speak to the sales manager and see if you can get out of it.

On a personal note, I have never purchased a vehicle the first time speaking with a sales associate. "I want to talk prices as I am researching vehicles and I am not buying/signing anything today" is what I always tell them. After sitting down at a few dealers, I make a decision and come back to finalize negotiations.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
Get a membership to costco. Then go here http://www.costcoauto.com/enterzipcode.aspx
And spec out exactly what you want, see if the dealership will match the price. It's $2000 less on average through the costco site.
Oh and what you signed is nothing legal, you can back out at any time.

    Too few to list.
Don't know what state you're from OP but as far as I know, it applies to a majority if not all. You can sign all the paper work but if you do not leave the dealership driving the vehicle, the contract is not complete.

    Welcome to TW.

Went back with my poker face on. Talked to sales guy briefly and he knew I wasn't happy. He directed me to the sales manager and talked with him. Very friendly person and understood my situation. Long story short, got my 2014 for the same price as the discounted 2013 and got step bars included to make me happy!!! Stood my ground and told him I was looking elsewhere. All good in the end!!!
