Get a used manifold from a 2001-2004 Tacoma. They are tubular steel like a header so not prone to cracking, and they bolt right in with no modification. Can be had for ~$100 on www.car-part.com

Yes. You can pick one up at the local dealer.

Well if I get one of those mini headers then i might as well save up the extra 100ish bucks and buy a Doug Thorley header and get some extra performance. I have a question tho will having on of those thorley headers hurt my truck? cause it already has 186,000 miles so i don't want to hurt the engine.

Edit: I think this will be my best bet then! just gotta wait a couple extra weeks!

Does the guy still make them? The post is from 2009. If I'm paying 300 dollars plus 20 dollars shipping wouldn't it be better to just spend 50 dollars more for a Doug thorley header?

I had Doug Thorley header on my 2.7L for awhile. It might have been because of the rest of my aftermarket exhaust, but it was really noisy. And I didn't notice any significant performance improvements. I would just get a replacement manifold from rockauto or similar. And you shouldn't need to go to dealer for gasket, got mine from NAPA. Don't forget gasket for EGR if you have that.

EDIT: Not saying DT header isn't a quality product, because the one I had was clearly well-made, nice looking and bolted right on perfectly. Just made a racket under the hood for some reason. I had 2.25 pipes, one cat and a Dynomax super-turbo muffler.

Id prob just wait on gaskets then if u need em have wife gf or buddy pickem up local. Honestly I think youll gain pwr with whatever u get because itll be better then the cracked and leaking manifold I know my truck was much more quiet and more pep after header install

Thanks for the help man! I'm probably just gonna end up getting the standard manifold since I live in az I don't have much to worry about rust wise!

I've also been noticing a problem recently where my engine seems to kind of howl whenever I'm accelerating and then it goes away when I stop accelerating. I don't know if it's normal and I'm just paranoid or if it could actually be something

Yup mine is cracked in the same general area only a little further down! And it's easily visible they the heat shield because it goes right past one of the circle cut outs in the heat shield!

Mine came from Sioux Falls and sounds like it's cracked. I got it tonight I live in tucson (had it delivered ). Guess I should be looking at replacing as well since Phoenix way dryer than SD. Did you go with a 2001 or a 1999?

I ended up just ordering the regular 1999 manifold. I don't think its gonna make much of a difference out here in AZ
