Does anyone know why the coil wouldnt be covered under warranty? It says airbag/restraint coverage for 5/60k. Any ideas for me short of paying the 567 dollar repair bill??

Others have complained of this same problem: being denied coverage for this item.

Since the coil is (in addition to other things) part of the air bag activation circuitry, it should be covered IMO.

I bought the extended warranty, and it claims to cover the entire electrical system. That spring coil is definately part of the electrical system. I figure my first one will be covered.

But as I said, it seems Toyota is trying to screw everyone around on this item, because it is expensive to repair.

Yes it really does..Well they thought they could stick it to me and Id just pay up but I didnt. I stayed around all day asking for the GM of the dealership, I called toyota 4 times from the dealer and filed a formal complaint and got a case number so I will be back down ther tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

My guess is they won't cover it because it's a part that meant to bend and flex- and eventually will wear out no matter what. It's a part that is expected to fail at some point.

You might have something to argue about with the extended warranty for the airbag system...but I'm not sure- and like was said- lots of folks have had this issue. Good luck@@

True but the manual says to have it checked every 10 years..Surely it should last longer than 3 right? I guess when you read the warranty book and it says "cover ALL components" its not true. I will be sure to let everyone know how it turns out.

Also, the extended warranty clearly states that is WILL NOT cover any airbag components. SO my only hope is with Toyota I guess.

I'm 100% sure it's covered by toyotas 5/60 warranty as part of the SRS. The only way Toyota will not cover the spiral cable is for a mechanical issue ( i.e. horn inop, noise when turning steering wheel, etc). If the air bag light is on and there is a malfunction code it is covered

And I bet your trouble code is B18xx, or to be more specific code B1801 "driver side squib malfunction". I cover those under warranty all day everyday. Hopes this helps

Your truck should be part of recall of model years 2005 to 2009 #12V092000 by NHTSA.I'd call NHTSA if your dealership gives you any problem!

NHTSA recall #12V092000.It says its for replacement of a "spiral cable assembly" thats connected to the airbag's control module.I'd call Toyota customer service @1-800-331-4331 and the NHTSA @1-888-3274236.That cost should be given to Toyota.
