My dad and I normally hunt together , but he has to work on Saturdays lately and he doesn't want me to go by myself. If I do go by myself and happen to kill a deer, how do you guys get the deer in the truck bed by yourself?

unless you have a 6'' lift or something huge, just muscle it in. a bear hug and some grunting noises should do the trick.

otherwise, pop the tailgate off, and then get a ratched strap, with one side around the deer, and the other to a tie down at the front of the bed. then start cranking. it'll be slow, but pretty effortless.

how big are your local deer? i've seen some look like dogs..i can punt them in.

    i big NM mulie..it's heavy. no punting.:D

personally, it has been a long time since i've killed anything i can pull a truck up next to. i cant even remember..sucks now. i do everything from a backpack. an elk takes 3 men, two trips.

if i can get a truck next to it..i would get an elk in easy. even if i need to break it up. must be nice!!

just go. take the rear legs off if the thing is a beast.

^ lol, might be your best option.

I open the tailgate, stand in the bed, grab my drag rope and lift them in. Its only typically 100-140lbs. If you shoot a 200+lb deer, that might be a little different

I usually grab the antlers and drag it next to the open tailgate, sit down on the tailgate, then work my way into the truck and pull up the deer behind me.

Backing up into a ditch would definitely help.
You could take your tailgate off and use it as a ramp.
Two tie downs, one across the front of the bed, one as a winch. I have used that method a couple times before with elk. We used come-a-longs though. lol.

^this is what I do. Definitely easier with 2. My brother (13) and I loaded my buck last year in about 15 seconds which included me getting out of the bed and closing the gate once it was in the bed. And it was by far the biggest deer I've shot!

Bring rope (or tow strap) and park by a tree to use it as a pulley system. Drag it to the tree then wrap the rope around it and pull it up on to your truck bed...drive home with back intact :)

I bring my hitch hauler when I'm alone. I could get one in the bed, but that's just a lot easier.

Lol just do it. I did it with my doe this year (granted it was no bruiser) but we got 70 lbs of meat off her, so she was probably 150ish? Took me a couple of attempts but just muscle it in, you can do it
