Modernized to a Tacoma

Greetings Forum!

I am forced to part with my 20 year companion, an '84 solid axle SR5 long bed, because the frame has rust-through (courtesy of 3 winters in Syracuse). I'll be selling it soon for parts, like the nice drivetrain (e.g., rebuilt eng., trans, true-trac).

I just bought an '02 Taco 2.7 4x4 extra-cab, now parked next to the old '84. I kinda feel like I'm cheating on the old ride… It's pretty sweet to now be able to maintain the speed limit up hills, courtesy of nearly 50% more HP over my old 22R, and to have a quieter ride and fit the dog on the jump seat. Safety features like air bags and door reinforcement are a plus, as is the nicer ride of IFS. I will miss the LSD, and the 7' 3" bed, but I expect to get over it, and hope to keep the Taco for a few decades.

I may be looking to stiffen up the front, possibly with OME 881 springs and new shocks, plus air bags in the back for when I'm loaded with firewood -or if I can make my old 8 ft. pop-up camper slide into the 6' 2" bed without hanging past the tail gate too much.

Thanks 270WSM! (a great cartridge, according to the Speer manual). I had to travel to your state (Tucson) last weekend to find my nice 1st gen. 2.7. Happy hunting!
