I know that stock comes with "progressive coils", but I'm not very clear on what that means.... As you look at the top of my coils, they are physically touching. Is this normal?

I don't know why the picture is sideways...

Yes, that is normal, but your upper coils seem too tight. probably worn. Progressive coils mean that the resistance to compression of that coil is progressive as it compresses. Coils that are further apart are softer, and will compress easier. Those that are closer together are harder to compress, so they are stiffer in this area. This allows a progressive coil spring to give a smooth ride with normal driving, but when bouncing on a hard bump they will be more stiff once the lower spring rate coils compress. I hope that was simple enough of an explanation.

Ah, I understand now! Thanks for the super fast response! Are mine to the point of replacement? I do have a bumper/winch on the front also. The other side of the truck looks the same as the one pictured.

My old TRD progressive coils on 5100's in the middle.

I know a lot of people say that the progressive coils don't preload as well, and was a lot of the reason I went to a new coil entierly (881).

Only the TRD package springs were progressive the rest were linear. The TRD's are known for drastic sagging in the "soft" area in as little as 20K miles screwing up an otherwise good alignment in the process.

I was planning on getting 5100s sometime soon anyway, because the front end is so heavy. My tires rub now. Would it be wise to replace the coils at the same time? ONly thing is I'm not truing to lift the whole truck; only raising the front about an inch
