    Hi everyone,

I just bought a new 2013 TRD Sport Double Cab Tacoma. I love it! I'm curious what others think about bug guards. I'd like to protect the hood from rocks and such. The majority of my driving will be on the highway. I've read various things about bug guards. Do they work? Is it worth it?

    Thanks!

I had them on my 4 runner for 12 years. In all honesty I don't think they did anything other than protect about 4" of the hood. the bumper, grill and even the roof had chips from stones 12 years later.

Bottom line, I don't plan on putting it on my Tacoma.

Thank you. That is very helpful. I may pass. My wife and I traveling a bit tomorrow and I'd rather not come home with a newly dinged up Tacoma!

They do help a little bit, but you're still going to get damage. Not quite worth it, IMO, unless you've got the money to throw at it.

Thanks! I'm on the fence. I'm going to check out a couple local auto stores and see if they have anything in stock.

I bit the bullet and bought one for $60. It;s the AVS Bug Deflector. Looks pretty good! We'll see how practical it is. If anyone else here has one, I'm curious how effective the small rubber bumpers are? They look odd and seem unnecessary.

    Thanks!

The deflectors are pretty useless. What works? They used to sell a leather cover referred to as a bra, these cover the exposed surfaces.
