Picking up a used Tacoma, a 2010, what are the problematic things to look for before making the purchase? So far I know there is no rust on the frame.

    Thanks

a used vehicle is a used vehicle. could be fine, could be a complete heap. that being said, the Tacoma has good chances of being in fine running order.

if 2wd or pre-runner, make sure is shifts fine and sounds ok. I doubt you want to crawl under truck and check for driveline/ carrier bearing slop. check for broken leaf springs and blown shocks.

if 4x4, check for leaking c/v boots (you'll know), broken leafs, blown shocks, and be sure it cycles between all three drive modes (this may take some rolling around and turning).

all tacomas should have pink antifreeze. if somebody put a different color in, I would stay away. I always check engine oil too just to be sure it looks to be in decent shape and is at the proper fill level.

if you are completely new to tacomas, most people do not like the manual transmissions, I think they work fine. the v6 is noisy. both automatics are stellar.

im not sure if im helping much but there is nothing to really look for imo that could be bad without it being a normal maintenance item anyway. and keep in mind that the seller most likely wont take much money off for that slightly leaky shot because the d-bag behind you will never notice.

I bought mine used with 75k on it. 102k now and still runs like a top. no regrets, no proplems that I myself did not create.

bottom line, as long as it doesn't look like it was owned by someone irresponsible, it will be fine

Check the seal on the motor oil pan for seepage/leaks.

Check and see how much rust is on the lower control arm bolts. If they are excessively rusted it could be problematic/impossible to get a alignment done.
