About a month ago I hit a nut deep water crossing I've been through a million times (rode my dirtbike through it the day before) at warp speed, full throttle and the motor died about 20 feet into it. The worst part is a bunch of people were watching lol. Well, it started right up and I went about my hunting trip, but the motor didn't quite run the same after that. I have to rev it up to 5000 rpms to even do a burn out now! (it doesn't really run that bad, most people wouldn't notice the power loss) So, I haven't had a CEL for several years (painted bulb, stupid light). I got a handheld scanner and came up with these codes from the normal menu:

    P2197 A/F stuck lean Bank 2 sensor 1
P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold

And these codes from the "Toyota Enhanced" menu:
    P0300 random misfire
P000A Camshaft "a" timing over retarded
    P000C Camshaft "a" slow response
    P0156 Bank 2 sensor 2 malfunction (o2)
    P0157 Bank 2 sensor 2 low voltage
    P0158 Bank 2 sensor 2 high voltage

It also smells funny leading me to believe the cats took a crap when ingesting buckets of water. I only have the front two left on there and might try to gut them and see if it runs better (for closed circuit racing use only of course). I don't know what to think of the cams...what say you taco code whisperers?

Bump. Who is smart on VVT? Could there be a clogged oil port, or valve? Would a clogged cat effect the VVT?

Sounds like at least one electrical connection is still wet.

It's been a month of dry weather, and most all of the connectors on Toyota's are waterproof.

Our cats are pretty easy to gut. They are ceramic and the honeycomb busts up pretty easy with an "aircraft drill bit". Although they were not clogged shut, they were pretty dirty. The power came back, and I think it sounds nice, although a little raspy. I also have the URD Y pipe. I cleaned the intake, MAF, throttle body, air filter, and ran a little sea foam through it for good measure. I did the "anti-foul spark plug" spacer trick for the rear sensors. No codes relating to that...

    Slick as a whistle.

You can almost smell the EPA fumes.

Unfortunately, still have this code after a reset and 30 mile loop. I'm going to order new wideband sensors next, and maybe the URD fuel pump and filter upgrade just so I can rule that out. Is bank 2 the passenger or driver side?

Thanks man. Seems like several trucks have this same issue, but I haven't read what the fix was for sure.

Yes, I replaced the upstream o2 sensors and the codes went away. I ran it like that for a couple days then did the fuel pump. I can't believe the truck even ran...that filter was full of sand! The bucket the fuel pump sat in had at least 2 cups of sand in it. I cleaned the tank well and buttoned it up and the power above 4500 rpms is considerably better. Toyota screwed the pooch on that "lifetime" filter bs. It needs an external filter for sure, especially for desert dudes. Fuck pemex. That is all.
