I have run Blizzaks on my Taco and they provided excellent traction on ice and snow. This winter I will be running the Toyo GSI-5 and I expect they will perform comparably. Winter tires contain a high volume of silica, the compound that prevents rubber from freezing. AT tires are not winter tires and do not contain enough silica to even come close to compare in performance under freezing conditions.

I ran BFG AT KO's all last winter (in Fort McMurray, AB) and I was very happy with how they performed on my Truck in snow and on ice.

Before that I used Nokian Hakkapeliitta winter tires for years and they are excellent. You can get them in studded and non studded from Kal Tire.

I just bought a set of Yokohama Ice Guard IG51V - it's a newer tire from Yokohama so not a lot of reviews yet. I needed something for our Vancouver winters which consists of daytime rain and overnight ice with temperatures fluctuating right around freezing all winter. Also not a ton of snow during the week, but I'm up at a ski hill most weekends.

Given those rain/ice conditions, this was the tire recommended by Discount Tire and I got the set for $503 delivered!

They aren't getting mounted until this Saturday so I'll have to wait a month or two before I can give any sort of real world review.
