Hello everybody I haven't been on in a while, life sucks but it seems to be turning around. With that turn around comes a job offer in northern California (Roseville), I live in FL 2850 miles away! I'm thinking of pulling my 16x7 enclosed trailer and house contents along with me. I'm pretty sure I can stay under the 6500 limit of my 2006 CC w/tow pkg (it'll be close). My question to some of you more seasoned long haulers. Can this truck handle this trip in 4-5 days. I'm going to be getting a set of air-lift suspension helpers for the added weight. I'm more concerned with the engine and tranny. I've driven trailers all over but I was pulling with a 3/4 ton diesel CC. I have a Tekonsha p3 controller that works great w my trailer. But like I said I'm more worried about the miles and strain on this engine and drivetrain.

If I do it this way I will save thousands of dollars vs renting a penske and towing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a few pics of the setup, I took them yesterday when I was getting the brakes checked out.

Please help, move is coming in 2 weeks.

Oh, if I go this route I will be removing the roof rack to help cut down on drag.

    Thanks in advance!

Engine and tranny will be fine, just keep her downshifted and go slower.

Just check your tires and all that.

Just take her nice and easy. Fresh oil, clean air filter, all that jazz.

You can easily do it in 4-5 days, it's just a lot of monotonous driving.

Would you be taking 40 west and then straight up through CA?

If you can, you might want to try to find a set of stock take off wheels/tires. Pushing those big/heavy tires just adds more strain when trying to pull the trailer. And, unless you regeared, the shorter tires will help when going through the mountains. If you regeared for the taller tires, I wouldn't go back to stock size, it'll rev too high on the highway.

Good idea, I didn't regear, these are 33.5"ish. Now i wish I would have kept my stockers.

I am planning on taking I-10 all the way over to I-5 then all the way up to roseville. I made that round trip last year but I was in my wife's luxury SUV and it was a nice easy cruise. @ 85-90mph. This is going to be hell! I haven't driven 55 since I was in driver's Ed many decades and moons ago!

Rt now I live in the boondocks of FL. and have been getting screwed at my job. And it's boring as crap around here. Roseville is like an hour and a half from a bunch of snowboarding during the season! 2.5 from surfing and my best friend lives out there and I have a bunch of friends that live there. Plus both my wife and I are going to be making 2.5x as much as we do here. No financial future here esp w/ 4 kids. :(

The cost of renting a penske or budget and a tow trailer including fuel comes out to about $3300-$3400 + hotels. Pulling my trailer with est an mpg of 7 comes out to $1385 +hotels. So, pretty big difference. I might even throw on 4 new trailer tires for good measure add $425. Still way under.

unfortunately, no allowance for relocation. :(

I think that cross-country haul will be hard on the trans, especially with the over-sized wheels. It may end up costing more for trans repairs or replacement.

    Good luck & safe travels.
