I have tried to search out an answer, but have been unsuccessful.

I am looking at an 2000 Regular Cab, 2.7l, MT, 4x4. It had a new engine tossed in at 185,000 miles. The new engine has 85k on it. Assuming no frame rust, do I simply price it as the average of a truck at 185k and 85k?

Beyond that, it seems like the buyers guide covers everything else I have questions on.

    EDIT
    I typed 4.7 originally - i definitely meant 2.7 liter.

+1. Can he prove it has a new engine? Verifiable receipts and work? Was it indeed a BRAND NEW engine?

Why did it need a new engine at 185k??? What is the mileage on the truck at this time? 185k plus the 85k now? Or just 185k and they put in an engine that already had 85k on it?

new motor, it now has 85k on it (270 Total on truck).
Done by dealer, although I do not know why. Guy was very upfront with it, and has paperwork for all other repairs. It is owned by an older gentleman who has seemingly taken perfect care of the vehicle.

I would say take the average price somewhere between 185K and 270K. Although the motor is fine, all the rest of the trucks components have 270K on them!

x2, I would price it out as an average vehicle in the 200k+ mile range. As BVCOTaco said, the whole truck has 270k miles on it and the engine, although replaced at 85k miles, is still a variable. Some people have engine problems before 100k miles, some people make it to 300k without any major repair so just because that one was replaced doesn't necessarily add a ton of additional value when trying to determine cost.

If I were buying, I would value it at the 180K mark. You have to assume the worst with the motor, unless they're gonna give you a 3yr 36k warranty on the drivetrain, which I doubt.
The 270k number is just ridunkulous.
