Blinker Mod reverse???

I picked up an '03 Taco a month or so back to replace my Jeep TJ. I wanted something that I could still wheel but have more comfort on the highway. Anyway, as I'm going through it and modding a few things I noticed that the previous owner has done some sort of "blinker mod". It was missing the turn signals (aftermarket bumper) but the corner lights are blinking so I'm guessing he wired it up to work this way somehow. Of course, the lights blink too fast and there are no running lights. To solve this problem I ordered stock replacement turn signals but they are now staying on as running lights! Is there anyone who has wired their signals like this and can point out what wires I need to reverse in order to solve this problem?
