Anybody ever encounter Toyota requiring a change to a vehicle build after it was sent in by dealer?

    Ordered 2014 Tacoma as follows:
    >4X2 Access Cab
    >PreRunner
    >V6 w/ Auto
    >SR5
    >V6 Tow pkg
    >Heavy Duty All Weather Flooring
    >White w/ Graphite

The main reason to order was to get the all weather flooring.

Dealer worked it up and put deposit to order. Nothing on the dealer build software showed any conflict. After order sent to Toyota for production, Toyota responds back they will not build truck as optioned unless I upgrade my radio package to the Etune Audio PLUS.

The 2014 Tacoma brochure shows the basic Etune as standard equipment. This is definitely a first for me. How does a radio change the assembly line?

I don't fault the dealer. This is my first new Toyota product and moved from Ford equipment because of how this dealer operated.

Is it common practice for Toyota to do this? I'm at a loss.

I've asked the dealer if it is possible to get written response from Toyota on reasons why, and offered to contact Toyota directly. I still plan to get a new Tacoma but if this doesn't move in the right direction I will cancel the order and have dealer locate one close to my requirements.

    Will appreciate any input.

Personally I would tell the dealer to eat the upgrade cost and let them figure it out. You can always walk into another dealer who would take the sale if they aren't willing to help you out.
A good salesman would make this happen, and a good sales manager would see the value in eating that cost.
I bet it's a 50/50 chance they eat the cost, but i know another dealer would snag the deal no problem.

Entune Audio Plus Comes part of an SR5 or higher package. I just ordered mine with a fleet manager. You have to choose that at a minimum. I avoided the one with navigation, which does cost more money. That is how they display your backup camera on the 2014, on your radio display.

    I think lawr nailed it.

Toyota doesn't build as many different configurations as American manufacturers have historically done. You have to pick the stuff that goes with the SR5 package.

You can't pick and choose sr5 options. They come in packages.

    Appreciate the input...

    lawr / bj / smug:
All the info used, to include Toyota documents, does not list Etune PLUS as a part of the SR5 package. I did not have option to select PLUS for SR5 pkg, except as separate upgrade option, nor was PLUS listed in print out of SR5 when we built truck. And as of yesterday I will have to pay for this upgrade of which the PLUS is the cheapest at $500-600, with NAV model even more.

Toyota info shows Etune BASIC standard equip on 4X2 and PreRunner. The PLUS is shown as an option and as I mentioned before I can not find any reference showing the PLUS as part of the SR5. Do you guys have info that shows the PLUS as part of the SR5?

Also I was told the BASIC is compatible with the backup camera.

As for another dealer, this is the 2nd one already. I have dealt with them before on several used Toyotas in the family unit. The 1st dealer lost my business in the first 40 minutes. So I'd like to make this work as I don't care to drive longer distances to buy a truck like I used to do.

Thanks again for the help. Just trying to get a simple understanding on this. Maybe the all weather flooring is not worth this hassle and I'll cancel it then wheel and deal on a built 2014. Time and the money are still on my side.

If anybody has anything else will appreciate it. Thanks.
