Wanting to black out the white '4X4 text on the mudflaps.
Has anyone successfully done this? Wondering what the best way to paint/dye over the white lettering is.
    Thanks!

The best way to achieve this would be to install rear flaps from a prerunner if you want a totally black, factory looking flap. They're the same except for the "4x4" lettering.

Post that you're willing to trade your 4x4 mudflaps for someoneelse's non-4x4?

Spray some WD-40 on the white 4x4 lettering & rub off the white with a microfiber cloth....will leave you w/ a black flap.
Goo Gone or Goof Off works well too.

Mudflaps are already black. It would be easier and faster to take them off and paint the whole mudflap with some rattlecan krylon satin black.

I put Weathertech's on mine. No lettering at all. I like them much better than the originals. Only paid $62.00 delivered from Amazon for all four.

I took the white off with goo-gone, but I'm not completely happy with the result. It seemed to come off easy enough, and looked fine in the garage when I was done, but not so much in the sunlight.

The area around the 4x4 lettering now looks discolored and grayish. Not sure if the goo-gone did that to the black, or if it's just some left over white that got spread around.
