LED map and dome lights only work when key is turned on

I just bought a 2001 tacoma, and the previous owner installed some LED map and dome lights. However, the key must be turned on for the dome lights to work. When the key is not in and I try to turn a dome light on, it emits this pathetic flicker. Why is that?

 

what I mean is it emits this low light flicker, and does not really turn on. I can't see anything by the tiny amount of light it emits.

 

the easiest fix is to wire in a resistor.

if you use the search feature, its been covered

hit up a local radioshack to get the resistors. i think i got 4 for like a 2 bucks. rather then attach the resistor to the outside of the cap at the ends, i bent th leds and stuck them inside of the caps at the end and dropped a blob of solder inside, in my mind its less likely for them to pop off for no reason.
