    Hello all!

I recently ran into a problem where my daytime running lamps (amber) started melting and cracking the plastic lens they are housed in.

I took it to the dealer, they mentioned a repair bulleton. However, my truck being at 78k mileage, my 100k warranty doesn't cover headlights. Even if its a design defect!! They claim the headlights are not a mechanical problem but a body problem, and body is not covered.

I contacted Toyota corporate and they offered to cover the cost of the new headlight assembly's. But not labor. (labor = $250)

I was considering installing them myself and I wanted to know if anyone had recommendations on HID's and how I would go about upgrading my system to that type of light. Or should I stay with stock?

    Cheers,
    - Ryan

No suggestions on projectors or anything like that, but the melting headlights is common. I've opened a case and am waiting to hear back on how to proceed.

I've heard of people saying that the dealership will cover the cost of the labor and toyota covering the cost of just one light. Maybe see if the dealership will cover the labor or if they will just send you the lights and let you replace.

    Thanks for the reply!

When you say you opened a case, was that with corporate or NHTSA?

My new assemblies are in stock. I am concerned they will just do the same thing again.

    Cheers,
    Ryan

If your dealer is anything like mine they will not release them to you to install. Mine claimed that they had to install and wouldn't let me have the old ones. I did pay nothing for the new ones so I was't going to bitch.
