Maybe because it is new (less than 1k miles on her) my 13 DCSB 4x4 V6 Auto trd OR taco just doesnt seem to be as free revving as my Moms 07 4 runner (same motor and trans... non 4x4)... the 4 runner seems to take FAR less gas pedal to get up and moving compared to my new taco.

Is it just cus everything is still really tight? I only get ~ 16-17MPG on the hwy and comparing to the 4 runner i have to have my foot it it quite a bit more to cruise at 70.

i guess time will tell. id really like the 20mpg or so that the 4 runner pulls...

or at least the claimed 18 combined that the spec sheet says.

4x4 vs 2wd. The 2wd will definitely fell more peppy, less shit for the motor to push.

Don't the new 13's and up have some smog pump that the earlier motors didn't have? If so, another pulley for engine to have to turn.

The smog pump is electric and does not run off the engine.

do the new tacomas have the secondary air filter? my daughters 08 4 runner did not have one, i took out the one on my 05 Tacoma 4x4. doubt it made any difference but removed anyway.

I think it's programmed that way. Probably to make it easier to drive and modulate the throttle on rough terrain.

I can't compare it to other 4.0s, but it's certainly less responsive than my wife's 3.5 venza.
