The best? Look for something with a CCD image processor. Sure, you can get something with a CMOS processor, but you most definitely get what you pay for. Expect to spend at least $75 for a decent one.

Yep works at night. I think it has 6 infrared leds so at night it is all black and white but it works great. I just double stick taped it under my bumper and ran a switch for it so I can turn it on anytime.

Thanks. That's on the top end of the budget but I want a decent picture.

Of course not. Don't tell me you're serious. Optics across all platforms (vehicle lighting, video, spotting scopes, binoculars, etc) is very price dependent. If you are cheap, the quality of the product you receive will reflect that. Do what you want, but I am just letting you know...

That one is actually CMOS... Many manufacturers use the term CCD calling it "crystal clear display" when it actually stands for charge coupled device to lure buyers into buying it. How important is having the "best" in your search for a backup camera? What kinf of headunit do you have? You might not even be able to utilize the resolution. Also, how do you want to mount it?

Been looking into one of these as well. I wouldn't care for having a cheapo or not, it would mainly just be for hooking up trailers and stuff. I have a Pioneer double din headunit.

You can get away with a decent quality CMOS for stuff like that. You'll just experience a little bit of distance distortion (not really noticeable). Just pick a good mounting location and choose one that will fit there and has the right options (reversed image or not, distance lines, etc). The OP asked for the best, and I was just trying to lay out what the best is.

Yep. That's honestly I would need. I don't even need it to be honest, but I just thought twenty bucks would making hooking up trailers a little faster.

On the other hand, the biggest trailers I am able to pull with my truck, I am usually able to just move around myself to get to the hitch on my truck, but sometimes it's pretty difficult.

Thats how I am. All are boats so I can move them into place. The reason I got it was because the people I work with are incapable of backing someone to a trailer without it hitting my truck and it is a lil bit easier for me to do it this way since I have a manual. I know how far I need to go and when to stop.

I posted the link above in like the second post for the on I am using.
