Truck is a 2010 4x4 DCLB Sport. Front bearings went out at 80k. I researched this on TW and decided to buy a pair of hub assemblies from a vendor recommended on TW.
It took nearly 3 weeks to get them due to some sort of mix up with the vendor. I paid a professional ASE mechanic/buddy to install them. The left one destroyed itself at 200 mi.

The vendor says the installer did not torque the axle shaft nut correctly and this caused the bearing failure. The mechanic says he did torque them correctly and the bearing is defective. I'm not a professional mechanic, but I have worked on cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles all of my life. I cannot understand how incorrect torque on the nut could possibly cause a bearing to fail.

    Who is right?

This has been a damn nightmare. I bought a Toyota for their reliability. Shit like this isn't supposed to happen.

I don't know about installing them, but BamaToy1997 is a vendor on here and builds an amazing set of the bearings..hit him up if you need more..

I could have probably done it, but I've never done it before and didn't have time.

I'm not a familiar with the conversion you did but on older trucks that have wheel bearing you pack with grease if you tighten to tight you will burn them up causing them to fail prematurely. Maybe that's what happened

Pretty unlikely since the axle nut torque is something like 180ft lbs(off my crappy memory). That's a lot of torque

How do you know it's destroyed, vibrations, wobble? Both the vendor or the installer could be at fault. Is it still assembled, check the torque to prove the installer did torque it correctly.

Regardless the vendor should have a warranty or be able to warranty the parts with his supplier and therefore should take care of you. If this vendor is worth as much as they are being recommended for.

It's definitely destroyed. The rotor began to rub on the shield.

It has already been removed and the bearing / flange moves back and forth+-1/8 inch. The vendor has already agreed to send me a new one.

Yikes, that is Insane play. I hope your tires are ok. There should not have been a reason to make this thread, the vendor should have taken care of you right away.

The vendor agreed to send a new one free of charge right away.

I created the thread in order to hopefully find out who is right. If the vendor is right, the mechanic owes me free labor and the vendor for the second replacement. If the mechanic is right the vendor owes me for the mechanics labor.

I realize that someone owing money doesn't necessarily mean that you will get it.

I was hoping for someone with experience replacing the bearings would chime in.
