Ok i need some help. I was driving to school today and at about 25 mph i hear a huge loud pop sound. Now every few seconds there is a clunk sound coming from the rear. I did the grey wire mod a week and a half ago with no problems until now. I have no clue whats going on and it does not seem save to drive.

My truck is a 2001 toyota tacoma 4x4 TRD.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Broke a tooth of the ring gear maybe? The grey wire mod shouldn't have anything to do with it. Unless you have the rear locked with driving on the street?!

Well to verify that its not a Ring, Pinion or Spider gear tooth. Pull the drain plug on the differential and see what falls out. If you pull the plug and it looks like these photos, then you can rule out the locker issue

For the record, this is what happens when a pinion bearing in the front Diff decides to seize up while driving 45 mph... Not a fun project!

If you broke a gear tooth, there will be pieces of it in the gear oil.
