When you and your girlfriend/spouse talk about Christmas do ya'll set a money limit on how much to spen on each other? My wife and I were talking about it the other day and I wonder how many of you do. If you would like to share how much feel free.

My wife and I spend what ever. Now that my brother and I have kids we spend less and focus on them. We get 1 person each in the family to buy something more expensive for like $150-$200. And then smaller things for everyone else. That said I still have prolly spent $200 on my wife, but I buy things all year and hide them. My parents still go crazy and buy big gifts for everyone but that's their choice.

We do. Right now - Getting ready to move this summer, so it'll be low dollar and functional gifts, and not many.
Other years, we've had specific gifts we've wanted...so that's just what we did.

Man the thought of X-mas kills me. I am a very cheap bastard and do my best to spend as little as possible.

X-mas to me is just a holiday we force ourselves to buy even more shit we really don't need. To me the gift giving aspect has just put too much stress and strain on everyone and really takes from the holiday.

I still spend money on the kids, but in a practical way and yes we set a budget. As for the wife and I, we try to avoid buying each other gifts and if we do they are often fairly inexpensive. Instead of blowing a ton of money on gifts we instead always try to slip away and do a mini vacation and enjoy good family time. The cost of doing this is IMO money well spent.

No, each in the family just buys what they are comfortable spending and none of us have expectation.

Don't shoot me, I do have faith but, I really enjoy the holidays due to the time I get to spend with the people I care about. Birthdays are similar and it gives me the chance to show my appreciation towards a specific individual. About the money aspect, I don't get the issue spend what your comfortable with...it's a gift not an expectation so I'm not sure why the self imposed pressure...just don't give into the game. Hell, my most valued gifts are thing like quilts my mother made me by hand or paintings my aunt did and gave them to me. Those are my kind of presents... Beyond that let's face it, in most cases if your an adult there's nothing you really need anyway or you'd already have it.
