I tow a 3000lb boat fairly regularly. my 2012 DC 4x4 V6 does great -besides the rear end sags with any little weight, nothing new with tacomas. i have 5100s up front @ .85". Rear end is .5" higher than the front but the boat makes the truck squat 2". I installed some Air Lift Air springs but i removed them yesterday because they were faulty but i did love the ride/handeling when towing the boat. I was thinking of adding wheelers single leaf AAL 1.5" to help reduce the rear end sag. Im ok with a little lift and im assuming i will actually only get 1" of lift out of these AAL, or will i see a true 1.5"?
    1) Do i need new shocks if i get 1-1.5" of lift?
    2) What are some other options, besides a whole new leaf pack, that will help with payload/towing? Not much help is needed back there but a little would go a long way

Here is the AAL i am referring to:
Edit: Also, idont want to try the Firestone air springs because i dont want to deal with air leaks or bag damage. 3000lbs was pretty light for my previous air springs. When towing at 25psi i was back level so i dont need that much help back there

I am seeing that a a single AAL is not the best for towing and will give a rougher ride vs a 3 leaf pack that is better for towing and will have a good unloaded ride also. Am i on the right track with this?
Does anyone run the 3 leaf pack 1.5" lift with stock shocks?

I can't speak on behalf of 3-leaf packs, but I do hear they are better. I have a single 2" AAL (Toytec) witl 5100's and it does ride a tad bid rough in the rear, especially when unloaded. The rough ride is definitely not a deal breaker, though, especially coming from TRD Off Road suspension, which is not smooth to begin with.
Hopefully someone with a 3-leaf AAL can chime in. Good luck!

The leafs are the weakest link, option A: Replace the leafs altogether Dakars or Alcans, Option B: AAL in some leaf combo, Option C: Firestone airbags

I have a 2 inch AAL from Wheeler's Off Road and Firestone Ride rite airbags with 5100 shocks, hauls anything, tows anything (within reason of course), never had a problem with the bags, highly recommend them. Great for being able to adjust to when you haul and leaving down to around 8-10 psi when you are not. I let enough air out to level the truck when i'm not hauling. Takes the guesswork out of 1 inch vs 2 inch or whatever in the rear, just find the happy spot to run the bags at.

I really dont want to lift the rear 2", 1.5" is pushing it but i know to increase towing comfort i need some height. I like the concept of the air bags but even after a week of mine i didnt feel like contanstantly adjusting them. After trial and error, i want this to be a set it and forget deal, even if it means a different ride with the new leafs. I tow my boat 2-3 times a month, year round, anyway.
Do you have you stock height 5100 shocks or the longer version with the 2" lift in the rear?

I have the 3 leaf aal from icon..... Pretty much looks like the wheelers.

Ride is much more compliant than a single aal like the toytec/deaver.

    Its paired with 5100s also.
