Something strong and sticks out a little so any car that might rear end you stays away from the rear bumper.

That's the exact setup I have since I had a $25 gift card to Amazon and wanted to spend it on something for the truck. I purchased a Reese locking pin to keep it on the truck, although nothing is stopping someone from unscrewing the shackle itself.

I wrapped the block that goes into the receiver with duct tape to keep the slop down and keep the paint inside from being too damaged.

You'd have to be pretty damn close to the truck to have that happen.

Haha, does that actually exist? Freakin' awesome!

I had the drop hitch seize in my receiver on my last Tacoma, so now I take it out quite a bit. I also one time parked at a WalMart, backed in and the drop hitch was a little bit over the sidewalk which I didn't notice when I parked, but someone must have tripped over it or something because they keyed the ever loving shit out of my tailgate. So now I get paranoid that someone is going to bang a shin on it and key my truck to hell. Sucks because I tow all the time. In the summer it's almost daily, in the winter it's at least twice a week or more.

If they were walking close enough to your truck to trip over the hitch then they are just idiots and were assholes to key your truck for their stupidity.

Yeah, I guess I'm a dick for forgetting it was in there and backing up too close to the sidewalk, but man, that's a little extreme to key the every loving shit out of my truck.

Works in a pinch but the hitch receiver is designed like that for a reason, thats a lot of force to put on a pin by itself.

Just picked this up today, thanks for the heads up!

I'm gonna get someone with some legit drill equipment to relocate the hole eventually so it sits more flush in with the receiver.
