ME Beta was actually really damn good, then they released the RC and it went downhill from there.

There's obviously no driving need to upgrade to a new Windows version (I'm simply doing it to legalize myself since my XP Corporate license got whacked). 7 starts faster and there's some better built-in media support, otherwise the gains are 'nice to haves' - searchable start menu, built-in indexed searching, gadgets. Backup tools might be nice, but haven't used them (I hope they are like Apple's time capsule).

 

I've been running 7 on both Old and new hardware, so far, it's much faster than XP, even running the same programs. From a techie perspective, the XPM beta that is included in the RC is almost flawless. Letting you open just an application from the virtual machine, rather than the whole thing. Kind of reminds me of Fusion/Parallels on the mac.

 

How can I get a Beta version?

 

I've always heard of ppl doing beta testing for microsoft. But once the official version comes out, do you get a full copy or do you have to buy it like everyone else?

 

The pre-order sale ends on 11july09 so if you are thinking about buying do it now before the price goes up.

just downloaded it from microsoft and am installing it as i type this.

 

Windows 7 has xp mode, only reason i'm gonna upgrade is for DX 11 for My GTX 285.

 

finally. im def gonna get this. Been using XP and didnt even bother trying vista. my computer even outlasted my niece's hp desktop with vista which had too many bugs.
