Ok so I've a pretty important question here... Backstory: I've got the 5100 adjustables on my Xmas list but no springs. I was under the impression that for us 2nd gens at least, we could buy just the shock assembly (no springs) and take the stock springs off our stock trucks to put on the new shocks.

I know this may not give me the BEST ride but for now I'm more concerned with getting the lift from the adjustables right now than greatly improving my ride quality...

So anyway, quick version of my question: can I run my stock coil springs on the new 5100 Adjustable Shocks?

I've been running my stock Sport coils on 5100's @ 2.5" for a year now. Can't complain at all.

I'm in the same position you are and there's so may different threads on this topic it's confusing as all hell! People say it's recommended you run the stock springs, while others say upgrade the springs.....

Great! That exactly what I'm goin for.... And since this is my thread... I'll take it a lil off focus to ask, what'd you do in your rear?

I got a set of 2" blocks for free from a member here and plan on runnin those with the AllPro ubolt flip kit in the rear for now. My only concern is maxing out the rear shocks as full droop when I'm wheelin...

Put together a progressive AAL from some springs I had in the shop.
I'd say if you are doing any real wheelin', to at least go with a AAL over a block, if not just a couple new leaf packs if it's in the budget. And some new shocks wouldn't hurt either. You should be "alright" with stock shocks, but they will most likely be a limiting factor.

I have the 5100s set at 2.5" on sport model springs and the ride is great. Was able to get everything aligned properly as well. I added a 1.5" block in the back as well and I sit pretty level.

That "limiting factor" is what concerns me but I think I'll have to just take the risk for now cuz the "budget" is pretty much zero for now..

I just put the rear 5100's on and on Mon the fronts get put on. Just with the rear on I feel like I'm riding on air. I'm leaving my fronts at 1.75. That should level it off. I don't do any off road unless I'm hunting. It's only through farmers fields. I'm getting bigger tires, but wanted to know what is the best All terrain tire that doesn't make a lot of noise on the highway. I was thinking about 265/70.17
