I know it will take forever to recover the investment however like lifting or doing other mods we all like our tacos and do mods primarily for the enjoyment factor. I am spoiled as I spend alot of time each year in brazil and I have a 2012 ford ranger crew cab 4x4 with a 3.0 powerstroke diesel. Highway 32 mpg city 28 with gobs of torque just enjoy the diesel so much I decided to do the swap. Plan to install a 25 gallon transfer style second tank in the front if the bed which will put the truck fuel range over 1,200 miles

Also I have a 2005 be Jetta wagon tdi average 45 mpg on veggie grease car has 240,000 miles and runs like the day I bought it new. Never an issue running filtered wvo or used automatic trans fluid. No gasser lasts that long and still runs like new

x2 some people like myself work hard for their money, and to invest it more efeciently is always on my mind. This all leads to a better result. IMHO. Unlike here in the US the rest of the world is just trying to survive day to day and diesel's are the obvious answer to fuel eficiency, hints why the rest of the whole gosh darn world uses it except for us fatso's in the us. Unless the rest of the world is just a bunch of idiots and the US is the only thing in life that makes sense.

BTW. If anyone takes a Jab at my patriotism, you better think twice. I have saved our soldiers lives over seas and here at home on more than one occasion, and love my country. But I wont turn a blind Eye to what we realy are.

The good news is Dodge Ram 1/2 ton 4 door cab pickup will be available in late / fall 2013 with a V6 turbo clean diesel. If the trend begins Ford, Chevy and others will have to compete and bring in the South American Diesel models, Hope that will trigger Toyota to finally bring in the HILUX D4D diesel option. All depends on if the Dodge is a flop or if it makes record breaking sales with the new diesel.

Ram to Build Industry’s Only Light-duty Diesel Pickup

    • 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel to deliver best-in-class fuel economy, a title already owned by the 2013 Ram 1500
    • Clean diesel features low CO2 emissions and impressive V-6 capability
    • Diesel engines praised for outstanding range and torque
    • Ram first to market with game-changing technologies

February 14, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Beginning in third-quarter 2013, Ram will become the only brand to offer a small-displacement diesel for its half-ton line of trucks.

The 2014 Ram 1500 will offer a new, 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine, mated with the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The powertrain is expected to deliver an outstanding combination of best-in-class fuel efficiency, best-in-class torque and impressive capability.

“Truck owners have been emphatically asking for it, and Ram will be the only manufacturer to offer a diesel powertrain in the half-ton segment with the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO — Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC. “The half-ton truck market is incredibly competitive, and although we’re honored the Ram 1500 has received a number of prestigious awards, we cannot rest on what we have accomplished, we must keep pushing.”

The 2013 Ram 1500 won Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year, The North American Truck of the Year and Truck of Texas -- a rare trifecta in the pickup segment. Building on the award-winning truck, the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will further stretch its best-in-class fuel economy title lead and continue to raise the innovation bar in one of the automotive industry’s most customer-loyal segments.

“The Ram 1500 with 3.0-liter V-6 turbo EcoDiesel and TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission deliver on the demands of truckers by providing best-in-class torque, fuel economy and range. There’s no doubt that being the only truck manufacturer to offer this game changing technology will provide Ram with a competitive advantage,” added Diaz.

The new 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel is among today's most advanced diesel engines. Its emissions are 60 percent less than those produced by diesel powertrains 25 years ago. The impressive combination of torque and fuel economy marks new levels of performance for small V-6 engines.

Ram’s newest turbo diesel engine is manufactured by VM Motori, a Chrysler Group diesel engine supplier since 1992.

Over the past 10 months, the Ram Truck brand has set an aggressive product cadence. Ram’s big push began in April 2012 with the introduction of the Ram 1500 with class-leading 25 mpg fuel efficiency and innovative features such as Active Level four-corner air suspension.

The Ram Brand followed that news with the launch of the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups. Their 30,000-pound trailer-tow rating – more than three tons more than their closest competitor -- and 850 lb.-ft. of torque are at the top of their class. Most recently, Ram introduced the new 2014 Ram ProMaster van with its own list of best-in-class features, including fuel efficiency, payload, cargo capacity and lowest cost of ownership.

    About Ram Truck Brand

The Ram Truck brand continues to establish its own identity and clearly define its customer since its launch as a standalone vehicle brand. Creating a distinct brand for Ram trucks has allowed the brand to concentrate on how core customers use their trucks and what new features they'd like to see. Whether focusing on a family that uses its half-ton truck day in and day out, a hard-working Ram Heavy Duty owner or a business that depends on its commercial vehicles every day, Ram has the truck market covered.

The Ram Truck brand has the most innovative lineup of full-size trucks on the market. Ram Truck has emerged as a full-size truck leader by investing substantially in new products, infusing them with great looks, refined interiors, durable engines and features that further enhance their capabilities. Truck customers, from half-ton to commercial, have a demanding range of needs and require their vehicles to provide high levels of capability. Ram trucks are designed to deliver a total package.

I already looked into bringing a Ranger or Toyota Hilux in to the USA. The United States government will not let any of these vehicles in through Customs at the port, it will be sent back at your cost or crushed because it does not meet emission and crash standards etc. The only thing you can do it bring in parts, front clip, engine, trans, wire harness etc and swap the parts over to a Domestic truck, This is what www.dieseltoyz.com does.

    This! ^

Did you really think Toyota was goig to tell you when/if they were going to release a diesel. Think about competition... They don't want competitors to know what they are doing. Think about car shows.... The hype of what's next is what pulls people in to look and buy one vehicle from another. It will be a very big deal if/when Toyota decides to produce this for the US. They're not just going to tell Joe Blow because he's a member of TW.

The Wentzville, Mo. GM plant is tooling up to build the new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado--available in fall of 2014. Chevrolet stated that they will introduce a diesel in that truck in fall of 2016. I think Nissan is going to offer a diesel also. Yota had better be looking at the competition as Chevrolet will attempt to steal away the mid-sized truck market. As to getting any sort of response to a question posed to their engineers/marketing/sales....you might have better luck finding the Wizard of Oz.

Yup..a friend of a friend's family used to bring over a Mercedes or BMW from Germany instead of buying one here. Not sure if that's still the case, but it required the emissions (among other things) to comply with US standards first.

The only issue with the new Diesels that will be available in the USA is they will be smogged with Exhaust DPF, diesel particulate filters, a CAT converter and the worst part of all they will have a UREA tank which injects UREA into the exhaust to scrub the NOX / Exhaust, the UREA is expensive and needs to be filled every 5 tanks of diesel, all this smog crap requires multiple sensors etc, the DPF clogs every 100,000 miles and requires replacement, also expensive, the injection rails are all 2,000 psi or higher which kills reliability of the injector pump and injectors, truck will go into limp mode if any sensors throw an idiot light. The KISS bulletproof way of building these diesel engines ended in 2012, now they are all over engineered with sensors etc and have lost the reliability and economy that used to make Diesels so good.

I have looked at all the major brands mid size truck and SUV diesels in Brasil. The chevy S-10 LTZ has a 2.8 litre 4 cylinder diesel, the Nissan has a 3.2 litre Triton, A friend of mine has a new 2013 Nissan Triton and claims he only gets 22 - 25 mpg (8-9 km per litre) it is loaded with all the smog BS.

Any of these trucks / suv pre 2013 are not smogged with all the crap, they are the good ones that get 30 - 35 MPG, my ranger in brazil is a 2012 the last good year 3.0 Powerstroke built by International, all the new ones have a 5 cylinder Duratorque which is smogged, window sticker rating for MPG of the new Ranger is 8-9 Km per litre, my 2012 Powerstroke gets 13 - 14 KM per litre, seems the industry isi going backwards on economy because of the big Government EPA crap.

The tacoma / Hilux D4D diesel swap I am doing is using a 2011 powertrain with no Smog crap, I prefer my used toyota swap over any of these new diesel trucks as it will make more power, be more reliable and get 10 mpg better, Also the Ram eco diesel that is available in the states is a V-6 3.0 diesel also smogged with the Urea crap, I doubt it will get any better than 25 mpg, at that rate might as well just get the RAM with the Hemi that gets 25 mpg.

With all this crap coming available it will keep Dieseltoyz in business as people want the more reliable economical diesels.

Good post Rolf. I would add that at the rate we are going I think the CAFE restrictions are due to tighten as those laws are sequenced over a period of time to allow the manufacturers to comply----but I would suspect it might be to ease the sticker shock over a longer period of time as well. Through all the hubbub I never hear anything about targeted MSRP to cover all the emission add-ons/maintenance procedures/and fixes necessary to save mankind.
