My truck takes about 1 second to start, sounds like it cranks over a few times at least. Just wondering if the tacomas usually take a few cranks before they start?

My 09 ford is significantly faster, but its also a lot newer. Just wondering if this is normal or if its signs of starter fatigue etc

    Reserected from the dead.
    Its normal.

If I remember correctly, the cranksahft sensor sends a signal to the ECU. Needs to verify xnumber of rotations of the crank or camshafts. don't remember the specifics.

Mine takes exactly 8 "cranks" (not sure if individual click noises are full rotations)

Anyway, I've heard (im more than likely horribly wrong), that the fuel sending system doesn't retain pressure, so it takes several cranks to get fuel to the system.

You really don't want an engine to fire right off. Extra cranking is good to get some oil pressure up. Radial engines and earlier diesels used a compression release to pull when cranking until you had 20 PSI of oil... then release to start. I'm pretty confident that if Toyota wanted instant light-off they would achieve it?

Your Ford's starter is very smart. Should just have to bump key and it'll keep cranking till it starts, or if there's a problem it'll stop.

Mine takes a second or two too. I thought there might be a problem also, but I guess it's normal.

Mine takes about 2 seconds. My Silverado use to start nearly at the first rotation.
