Std Cab Bench Seat question

So the standard cab 05+ (non SR5) comes with the farily rigid bench seat.

I noticed that the recline is limited by the rachet mechanism in the seat back not the back of the cab. Is there anyway to remedy this and get more recline from the back of the seat?

 

Yes, you sit pretty straight up. I've a 09 and feel if you could recline this a bit, it would really improve things. As far as remedies, Anything you do might affect safety requirements for seat positioning. Swapping to buckets might be your best bet.

I spent some time reviewing the 09 shop manual and wiring schematic today and even if you could find 09 buckets the wiring connectors are different. There are more connectors for the bench than the buckets.

I just don't think replacing the bench in the 09 with non-bag buckets will work if you intend on using the dash/wheel air bag since they have sensors in the seats that require connection.

wish I was wrong because I can get a supper deal on an 09 magnatic grey SR5.

 

Did you happen to check parts pics for 08 Buckets? They may be different, in fact I don't believe buckets were available in Regular cabs after 08.

they are not available in the 4x4 model in 09.

I was reviewing the wiring schematic section from the 09 workshop manual not the parts pics..

 

I don't believe their available in Pre-Runners in 09 either.

I have the same problem. One of these days I'm gonna pull the bench out and see what the the hell I can do. I decided not to go the bucket seat route because of all the airbag sensor concerns, even though a friend has an 07 std cab with buckets and they feel 100x better. And no there are ZERO 09 std cabs with buckets. It is simply not an option, and I confirmed this with the dealer. I wish they could've atleast made a a 60/40 with a built-in armrest and a little reclining action.

 

You can pull the sensors out of your bench seat and put them in the buckets. The driver side wires right up as is though.

 

Is this for the 2006 vintage or 2009?

I did it on my '06. It's possible that the '09 is different, but highly improbably. Even if they are, there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to transfer all the sensors from your bench seat to the buckets.

 

not true... NO 09 SR5 4x4 with buckets. not anywhere, they were not produced this way from the factory. Bench only with air bags in the 09 vintage.

 

Have you tried removing and re-installing any of the air bag sensors? How are they attached into the bottom of the seat?

 

Can you put the 09 SR5 Ext Cab buckets in there w/ a few minor mods?

I think that's where most of the bucket seats come from. Ext and Dbl cab.

That I understand although just wondering if they will fit in Reg cab, IE mounting holes, sensors, etc. I have a 09 Reg. cab and could use some more comfort for trips. I assume the buckets recline....lumbar adjustable, etc. Is it true only 09 & up seats will have side air-bag sensor?
