Kinda pissed. Bought a new 2013 Tacoma and the lug nut wrench doesn't fit the lug nuts! Contacted stealership and they seem to not really care. Originally I was just planning on switching out the wrenches without much of a hassle, but now two dealers (including the dealer I bought from) have made no effort to sympathize haha! I might make a bigger stink than I originally planned? Thoughts? Quick fixes?

    Thanks!

You're not the first person I've seen say that their lug wrench doesn't fit! I haven't checked mine yet but I will now!

What did they say about it?

Did you show them that it didn't fit?

Quick fix is a deep well socket and a breaker bar. That is what I use all the time. Stock lug wrenches tend to screw up nuts and aluminum wheels.

    Florida?

My guess, your truck came with some "custom alloy" wheels that are port-installed by SouthEast Toyota and they didn't replace the lug wrench.

It's hard to believe that if you went to the dealership you bought the truck from and showed them, they wouldn't give you the right sized lug wrench. Have you actually gone there, or just called them? Sometimes the person answering the phone doesn't know squat.

Turns out "someone" put plastic chrome covers over the alloy wheels. This is the reason the wrench can't reach the lug nuts. We pried the plastic hub cap off and found only one of the four tires had the Toyota emblem center cap. Eventually called the original dealer where I purchased the truck, and they are sending four new center caps free of charge. Very odd circumstance, no one at the service or parts department had seen/heard of these odd plastic chrome covers over the alloy wheels. Overall I very much prefer the look of the alloy wheels with the center caps, so I'm happy with the results. Truck just looks a bit silly right now because only one of the four wheels has a center cap, haha.

    Thanks!

    You mean these?

    ToyotaWheels.jpg

    The plasti-chrome is factory.

GM started doing that on the Silverado in '08. Toyota started on the Tacoma in '12 or '13.

There are chrome covers for the steel rims also, but they are just hub caps and not actually glued to the rim.

    I know... I have a set on my '08 5-lug.

Stupid design... holes in the center so the steelies' gray plastic center cap shows through.

That's what I thought too, but why else would plasti-chrome covers be installed on alloys?

I'm sorry, I misspoke. I have just the basic steel rims, not alloys. The chrome hub cap was not glued on, but very hard to pry off. Big PITA. I would post pictures but do not have time tonight, sorry! The plastic chrome is as cheap as it gets, without even a Toyota logo. Looks just like what you would buy from a Wal-Mart.

Ya, mine really does look pretty cheap too... and it's steel.
Freaking hole in the center so the plastic Toyota centercap shows through.

Funny, the covers were not on the truck in the dealer photos on the web site (Chevy dealer), but they were on when we got there.
Perfect match for the wheels, they are definitely intended to be used on the 5-lug... why no centercaps I have no clue.

The dealer got the truck in a dealer/dealer trade and had no idea what I was talking about until I showed him. He promises to send me 4 center caps, but we'll see how long it takes him. I'll give him 4 business days to at least get in touch with me, and then we'll see what happens.

Meanwhile, the 4 plasti-chrome hub caps are just sitting in the back of my truck. Gonna probably just throw them away, they look horrible. Also, we tested the lug nut wrench and it fits fine, it only didn't fit because of the aftermarket plasti-chrome caps the original dealer installed (for no real known reason, lol)
