'12 style dash in older models?

Has anyone tried putting the newer '12 style dash in the older model, '05-'08 style trucks?

The reason I ask is that I like the look of these newer displays and want to upgrade my '06 but I don't wanna spend the cash on something without knowing its gonna work.

Edit: I've been told by a reliable member on here that the connections are the same but he and I both wonder if the computers in the clusters will talk to the computers in the truck.

Is it the color you are going for? because doing a LED color swap from orange to white is a whole lot easier than replacing the gauge cluster. plus who knows if it will wire up correctly.

Especially since in 09 the side curtain airbags and Auto LSD were added, those are new lights on the gauge cluster.
