Yes, this is possible. Depending on the remote start or alarm system you have installed it should be a simple connection between the lock and one of the outputs on the remote start or alarm system.

If there is not a dedicated trunk button there is likely a few Aux outputs that can also be configured for the pop n lock.

I had a Clifford system in my Cherokee and I used the aux outputs to control lighting etc with the remote.

Find a good shop and it will be a snap for them.

Most trunk pops are a simple solenoid that only needs to be energized to "pull". The tailgate actuator (and door lock actuators) needs to be able to "pull" and "push". Be very careful of what remote start/alarm you buy. If it just has a trunk pop you may be out of luck. I don't do much of this type of thing, but I believe you would need two additional outputs for tailgate lock, tailgate unlock.

Similar to my ratchet tie down I use. :)

Only problem is that is keeps them from forcing the tailgate from under the campershell lid, but once they smash the glass, game over.

If I ever get around to it, the ultimate setup would be aftermarket keyless entry unit setup to control the tailgate lock separately, and no interior switch for the tailgate. Useful if you lock large, expensive items in the back that can't be taken out unless the tailgate is dropped. I guess it just depends on how you use the truck and where you park. It's just another deterrent, not an absolute.

I had the same thoughts this week when I installed one in my truck with a cover.

The only option I see is for a person to go $&/:(;#%{<>£%}|||~~%^@&$))(5;)$/###%##!!€<!!!!!!

Then cut hole in the cover to get in the bed.

To alleviate any worries regarding the moisture in the sponge you could put the sponge in a zip-lock bag prior to inserting it between the Pop and Lock and the Tailgate.

I have an Undercover Flex Tonneau and I just tested this ... using the hooked end of a coat hanger slid under the Tonneau Weather Strip on top of the Tailgate I was able to open the Tonneau with no problem on the first attempt, with no damage to the weather strip or scratches on the top of the tailgate cover.

Bottom line on this is ... all of these different locking mechanism will keep your stuff safe "up to a point" ... but if someone "REALLY" wants in, they're going to get in. :( :(

Thanks for the response. I had the same thought after sleeping on it.

I even went so far as to use a black permanent sharpie to put small marks on the top side of the cover to indicate where the release cord is exposed underneath -- should I ever need to "break in" to my own truck.

Did my pop and lock last night. Took me a little bit longer than most. I closed my tailgate by mistake before I was done and found out how to make a hook to open my tonneau cover.
By the way, it works great....

Just installed the PL8521 (Amazon) on my 2014 DCSB, the wiring colors you gave were spot-on. I was a little disappointed with the packaging, there was no inter-duct (loom) in the kit, only 5 zip ties, and only one wire tap. The tap wasn't an issue, I won't use taps on any application that moves or vibrates -- I soldered the connections.

I went down the driver's side with the rest of the wiring as there's absolutely no wiring running down the passenger side on the 2014. I came up under the driver's seat, under the driver's door, and back into the "B" pillar to get to the back door lock wires.

Thanks for the great write-up, you got me 90% of the way there =)

I'm interested in running the wires form the tailgate to under the truck through the existing backup camera loom like 2006KJ showed here. I just want to make sure I have the procedure down correctly before I start.

Here are the steps I think I need to do, someone please correct me if any of these are wrong:
    - take the loom off the pigtail that comes with the p&l and cut off the push on connectors that go in the tailgate (fine as I plan to solder that connection)
    - disconnect the back up camera and remove the plastic plugs that lead it out of the tailgate and under the truck.
    - fish my wires through this loom and both plugs (any tips on accomplishing this)
    - re-install both plugs and plug the camera back in under the truck.

I've seen here that there is a loom within the loom for the camera wires. Is it easier to put the p&l wires in the inner loom for this or only in the outer loom?

I just drilled about a 1/4 inch hole in both plastic grommet on tail gate and truck that the camara wires run thru. Little easier to do.Just putting another option out there
Just read some old post Saw yellowrubiu already did it this way.Nice install
