Call up a traffic-ticket paralegal near the NY courthouse and discuss it. If the fee is reasonable (relative to the expected ticket amount), you may want to consider letting the paralegal handle it. You can then avoid the court appearance and probably get the ticket dismissed or reduced to something trivial.

if you don't pay, they will get you either when you have your annual registration renewal or when you need a drivers license renewal, in this day and age, most, if not all states, share DMV information, the last thing you want to do is not pay it, they will get you, and it will be very expensive....

After talking with a lawyer friend I think I will just plead guilty. Maybe with a letter of leniency. Friend said I will most likely drive up there 2 different times. Total of 12 hours of driving.

One time to first plead not guilty, then another will be scheduled for the actual court date.

    Yes Sir :sorry:

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
I've got 20 years of tickets, fines, and court dates behind me. The bullet-proof plan is to keep that speedo somewhere near the speed limit. I cruise 10 over on interstate (5 over on local roads) and the fine men and women of the local and state police don't even notice me.

As far as reciprocity, DMVs, fines, etc... You can play the game for awhile, plead stuff down, not pay it, but the end result is that the states will find you and they will fuck you. Lost money, lost time, just not worth the hassle. And the insurance, oh how they love you when you speed! I guess if you're rich and have money to burn...

Smokey and the Bandit is dead. It's a new era; we kill terrorists with remote control planes with the pilot sitting on the other side of the planet, so what makes you think one cop in NY can't see everything on your record from 4 states away on his handy-dandy laptop? Or you aren't on camera? Or there isn't an aircraft clocking you? (yeah, I got bagged by one of those too)

OP I would call the number on the ticket to ask any questions you might have, then just plead no contest. it's your call, but i doubt fighting it will end up being cheaper.

And the part about VA speeding is slightly incorrect. It's 20 mph over the posted speed limit, or over 80 mph is an automatic reckless driving charge. Earlier this year i had to fight it because i was pulled over for going 83 in a 70 mph zone. pretty dumb if you ask me.
