I got into my truck last night and the blower motor wouldn't work at all.
There were no impending signs of failure just turned truck on and it wouldn't work on all speeds not even high. I searched the forums for common problems and decided to take the blower motor out and test it before going any further.. When I went to take the electrical plug off the motor I noticed immediately that it had partially melted. After taking the plug off I could see clearly that the plug itself had melted on the inside.
The female side of the plug on the motor has partially melted also.

There was quite a bit of exposed wire on both wires on the harness. Not sure if they were touching or not but they could have been.

Beyond the wiring harness what else could have caused the plug to melt down like that??

    Thanks for the help!!

Looks like you almost had a bit of a electrical fire..

Check the fuse see if there is maybe the wrong fuse size in its spot..

I almost had one when had my mustang previous owner but a bigger amp fuse in then was supposed to be there

my guess would be that the motor seized and drew LRA. The fuse should have taken it out before that happened.

Either way, you need a new blower motor.

I hope you stick around rather than making this your first and only post.

A frozen motor would make sense for where the harness melted.
I have seen on other vehicles that a bad resistor can cause harness problems but not sure if that's what happening here.
Has anyone here had resistor problems that led to harness issues at the motor instead of at the resistor itself??
I may replace it as well as its not crazy expensive to buy.

This isn't the first time I have had electrical issues with this truck.
About 4 years ago the hvac control panel on the dash started pouring smoke out of the dash. I found a used one at a junk yard and haven't had any more problems since.

Just hooked up the motor to a battery and it runs like a champ!
    Something else is the problem.
    Maybe the resistor is bad....?

I replaced the resistor, plug and motor and everything works as it should now.
Was able to get motor and plug for $30 from a junk yard and the resistor was $12.99 from Autozone.

There was quite a bit of corrosion on the resistor which may have caused the issues at the plug.
