Can't believe I forgot about Everfocus. I used their small 4 channel unit at my last job and it worked great.

Biggest issue with most DVR solutions though, is they have a proprietary compression protocol and can not export into a Windows-native format. They're okay as long as the software continues to operate on future Windows platforms, but support can be a problem. We're using Rifatron DVRs for our traffic management system, and the exportable viewer software is really terrible.

The "dashcam" systems generally store the video as AVI or Mpeg.

No, you'd be wrong. With video editing software like Sony Vegas in 1080 you can zoom in very clear at 50 feet.

If it's got a video output, it can be captured.
Many little digital camcorders have aux inputs for video as well as audio and can function as small VCRs.

Cheap and easy? License plate frame with a backup camera built in.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Rear-Vi...r_View_Monitors_Cams_Kits&hash=item19dd722fcc
Wire the power to a switched source and run the video feed to a connector in the center console.
Only problem with backup cameras is they are extremely wide angle and you aren't going to make out a face or license plate from 30ft away... 8-10 no problem.

Rich, what about a small (how small do they get) video camera like one sees people on there vacations using for family/scene/whatever shots.
Can one be adapted to fit secretly in my rear window? What do you think?

Someone mentioned a company called Everfocus, I went to there web site, no prices seen, I believe they are a little to professional, way out of my budget.
I've only got $500.00 to spend on this including installation.

I'm so dammed lost I don't know what to do. So as someone suggested I'm going to go to a security specialist and see what they have to say.

When I get this thing settled I'll come back and tell all what I ended up with camera wise and just what the Hell is going on. However I have to get some type of photographic evidence first, I've already been told that.
Thanks to all for there help, I really appreciate it.

    Seriously, gopro.

My wife has been having an issue with a lady harassing her. With the Gopro battery and a good size SD card, you can record for like 2 hours straight.

    Get the suction cup mount.

That is what my wife does. She just puts it in the window when she gets in the car and takes it out when she gets out. SIMPLE. Just start recording when you get in the car and stop recording when you get out.

Save the file to your computer and you can edit out any unwanted stuff and keep just the video of whatever it is you want captured. Recharge the camera, clear the SD card off and store the files on your computer, repeat the next day!

    VERY SIMPLE.

I have a gopro and the video is amazing. Looks like they now have an app that will remotely control your camera so you don't need to leave it on all the time.

    Hope this helps.

Ya, 802.11... it requires a WiFi connection to work.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of leaving a hotspot open on my phone, and this thing is not going to work when the phone is not in the truck, or when they are out of cell coverage.
It's perfect for home and office security, but not so good for a vehicle.

This web site looks really interesting, reviewing cameras http://dashcamtalk.com/.

One company DOD-Tech makes one called the LS430W witch I will probably get. It's under $200.00.

Anyone understanding cameras care to check it out at the home company, and tell me what they think.
