The last two days it has been between 10 degrees to -1 degree in the morning. The sound I heard was at startup for a brieft second. It Sounds like a belt but not sure. This is the first winter for this truck 12 dcb v6 TRD with 6800 miles. Has anyone else this sound? Thanks, dieselfan

Nope. 2012 with approximately 4800 miles, and it has been very cold here in UT

My truck squealed for around a minute the other morning when I started it, it was -39. If it is a humid day, then gets very cold that night and the next morning you usually get some moisture in the bearings/belts/alternator etc. Usually makes a loud squeal noise until they warm up. Depends on how cold it is. Shouldn't worry too much about it though.

They will make sounds you never heard before when they are that cold.Hehehe

Sounds almost like a squawk type noise? Not all the time. Mine will do it if its very wet out also. If this is what you are hearing I wouldn't worry to much about it. There are a lot of pulleys starting to move at once. I'm not worried about it.

I had my 06' up in North Dakota for a few winters (-40F for 3 months). It always made a whining sound for a few seconds after starting and it always took a few extra cranks BUT It always started... with no block heater or anything. Even down in Wyoming any cold starts under 0 the sound is there. I don't think its anything to be concerned with cause I've been noticing it for over 5 years with no issues.

I had the same issue, never as cold as some post, any thing under 20 degrees. I read on some forums and found that the mobile and the HK oil filter cause this problem. I replaced with a bosh, all seems good at this time.

Mine does to when it's cold. My 11' Tacoma did it as well. Never worried about it. Even this last week and a half when finally yesterday it got above freezing(0C). But when it's down to -25C(-14F) it came out. Oh well.
