Hey, I have an 03 tacoma and I have seen posts of frame recalls due to rust. How would I know if my truck is available for a frame recall? Thanks

I believe that campain has 'expired'

You're best bet is to call your Toyota dealership and ask them if the 'Frame Rust Warranty' is still in existence and/or if they still honor it. If they are still honoring it...you can talk to them about the details.

Did Toyota ever address the problem on the assembly line? I just bought a 2011 Taco and plan on keeping it for a long time.

Currently going through the same issue on an 02. There is a lot of confusing information on the web concerning this issue. The rep I'm working with is replacing the frame with no problems. They stated that the coverage is for 15 years from "put into service" date which I understand to be the first year it was sold. Then there is the issue that certain states aren't honoring the deal, etc. that is more muddy.

For sure go to your local toyota dealership.

not exactly. they did change everything in the new generation and 2nd gen guys don't seem to be rusting that bad but that may be due to their age. the oldest 2nd gen isn't even ten years old.

I've seen some rust on 2nd gen frames that would rival any 1st gen. best bet, go ask you l your local dealer about a rust proofing coating.

They may have changed techniques or methods later in the generation, but I know at least the early 2nd gens have it. I don't remember if it was on this forum, but I saw a thread of a 2nd gen with one of the worst frames I've ever seen. But the body was 100% perfect. They are also replacing those frames.

I'm also curious what the current status is on Toyota's frame replacement program. I could be totally wrong, but, despite it being an "unlimited warranty on frame corrosion", it is a 15 year warranty from when the truck was made. So, from that definition, your 03 would have another 5-6 years on the warranty. But things may have changed.

There are many threads on this forum that deal with frame rust and the Toyota Frame Replacement program.

There is no "unlimited warranty" on frame; Toyota gave a 15 yr from in-service date warranty on the frame of any truck that was brought in for inspection during their specified inspection window. (that window has passed)

The warranty applied to vehicles that spent time in one of the high road salt use states.

California trucks were not generally covered and to the best of my knowledge; were not affected by excessive (frame) corrosion.

OP, what you need to do is call dealer with your VIN and find out if it was ever inspected for frame rust. If so, then you should be covered under the program.
