I am trying to install floorboard lights in my 98 tacoma prerunner, and I have read several threads on it but cant find what I need. I just want to wire them to come on with the doors open and nothing else. I know that I need to connect the LED negative to the door switch negative but I was going to use an add-a-fuse for a constant power flow to the LED lights. My problem is that I cant find a fuse under the dash that has power going to it with the ignition off. Does anyone know if there is a constant hot fuse under my dash?

Maybe it's just me, but there's nothing about this question which makes sense.

If i understand correctly you need to connect into the dome light (you can always turn it on w/o key in or on, it's constant power)

Goodluck post if it works

It's probably easier to go straight to the battery than to the dome light if you're doing footwell lights. You could do as you were saying, switch the ground wire using the door switch that's already right there. There's a grommet in the firewall right above your clutch pedal (or brake if you're an auto) that's fairly easy to work with and run your hot wire right to the battery. This saves you trying to go all the way up to the dome light through the headliner and such.

I meant in the dome light fuse, (add a fuse) not exactly to the dome light

I see. Yeah that'll be easier than fishing it through that grommet. I had to cut it the first time a little (running big 0 gauge power wire for an amp) but after that using a coat hanger is's pretty easy.

I just finished up today. I just taped the dome light fuse with an add-a-fuse circuit and grounded to the door switch. Thanks for y'all's help

It came out really well. I can get you a pic tonight when it gets dark. I have to fix my drivers side though, I put them in a bad spot and the wires got pulled out of the light strip so I'm going to buy another strip and wire it in soon. I can get a pic of the passenger side though for you

This is the picture of my passenger side. I have to fix my driver side because the dumbass that changes my oil pulled the wires out of the light when they pulled the hood latch

I just used 5 or 10 amp I think. Nothing real big because it doesn't take much to power those small lights that I used and if something did go wrong, I want the fuse to blow before any type of fire or something could start

Anyone ever use those cheap LED strips you can buy at Walmart? Are they any good? They're like $20 for a set of two, thought about wiring them to a switch just for a cheap mod.

Yes, I know it's an old thread but you can also tap into the dome light at the top of the fuse block. There's a small, 2-conductor, blue connector (on mine at least) with black and black/wht stripe wires that route up to the light. They're in the perfect spot to tap into for footwell lights and you don't need to worry about adding a fuse, finding constant, etc.

I used a 10 amp fuse. Had to replace my hood latch so I could complete my front clip conversion. My 98 latch wouldn't release my 2001 hood
