Changed out my 13" Icon 650 lb/in coilsprings with King 14" 700 lb/in coilsprings. I also painted the blue King springs red, and I got the Icon CDC upgrade.

I can tell you that with the CDC setting on a softer (lower) number, the truck rides nicer/smoother less stiff even with more lift and with the higher rated coilsprings.

Nice! What did the upgrade cost you? So you feel it was worth the cost?

^^^ As to whether it was worth the price or not, it all depends on how much a softer and adjustable ride is worth to someone. It cost $845 to upgrade the pair of Icon's from standard to remote reservoir with built in CDC.

I can tell you that the ride difference is noticeable. And it's nice to be able to get a softer ride on the road. But honestly, Icon is probably the most expensive lift available. It certainly is excellent quality stuff, but it is overpriced in my opinion.

If someone who had a stock Tacoma 4X4 told me that he wanted to lift his truck to fit bigger tires (say 33" or 34" tires), I'd ask him honestly how much he wants to off road the vehicle. And is the Tacoma going to be a daily driver? If he honestly offroads maybe once or twice a month, and he drives the Tacoma to and from work, I'd tell him to buy the RCD 4" drop bracket lift with the Bilstein shocks. He'd sit as high or higher than all the coilover lifts and his off-roading wouldn't suffer that much. If he really wanted to wheel tougher trails, an adjustable coilover lift isn't really going to allow him to advance in offroading that much over the drop bracket lifts.

Serious off-roaders eventually build a dedicated trail rig that sees little if any street time. And that trail rig will have a solid front axle, lockers, and very custom suspension. Honestly, and old Jeep is probably the best value for building a trail capable rig. The aftermarket is filled with parts for Jeeps, and you can build a decent trail rig Jeep for a reasonable budget.

Having said all that, I'm happy with my setup. It handles very well on the road and handles the trails I want to travel. This stuff:

^ Depends on the length of coil you want, for instance if you want a 700# 14" coil the part number is SPR3-14-700, but here is a chart for a reference.

    Great thanks!

I also talked to Icon today. They offer their own 14" 700lb spring. They told me it was not the same spring as the same 14" 700lb King. But the Icons sell for $27 more ($120/ea) than King ($93/ea).

I got the same answer when I called em. They told me they put a custom bend/curve to there springs and claim they have better performance.

That is a 14" x 700# coil, but not the coil you would want to use on your OE coil over. The OE kits use a coil with a different deflection rate as well as the wrap is wound differently. "per king"

After talking to Brad at Icon I decided to go with icon brand instead of King. Mostly in the hopes that icon spent some time on R&D before they had these springs manufactured. I learned that King springs are no longer manufactured by Eibach but the Icons are.

So based on this info I ordered the 14" 700lb Icons from you this morning Micah.
Once I have them out on the trail I'll report back on how they work. Thx

Those red king springs look cool! Kind of candy reddish.

Getting everything slowly buttoned up. Still need to set some preload on the coilovers. How much preload are you guys adjusting your coilovers to? 1"?

Hey got a question. I have icon ext. co's with the stock 13 inch 650lb coil, I have them cranked to 2 1/4 on drivers side and 1 3/4 on passenger, Hub to fender measurements are 23 1/2. I would like a softer ride while maintaining my ride height. I have 285/75/16 fierce attitude tires load range E. my front end is stock no bumper or armor. Saw some people were going to get a 14 inch 650 coil but never did am wondering if that improved the ride quality. Any help would be appreciated thanks

You do NOT need new coilsprings. You have plenty of adjustability left and are already high enough in the front. Max droop is around 26" (hub to fender). Any more height in the front will severely limit down travel and adversely affect your ride quality.

If you are OK with spending some $$, Icon offers an upgrade to your shocks . . . adjustable remote reservoir. You mail them your coilovers via their shock service, and they can add the adjustability. Price depends on whether you already have remote reservoir version or not. It is not cheap, but it definitely will make a noticeable difference. You can adjust between very soft ride and very firm ride.

Don't have that kind of extra money. I'd rather sell these and buy new if that's my only option.

    Didn't you rebuild these yourself?

If everything is functioning properly then based on the info it just sounds like a re-valve is what need. We do this for 40.00 each or we can sell you the shims and support you on what changes to make yourself.

Dr. Sleep is spot on looking at another option we have for you as well. Either way we are here to help buddy.

You need to use our shims. Best thing to do is call in so we can have you speak with a shock tech and figure out what changes would be best. From there we can make an order for the required parts and ship them out.
