    Hey All:

Just wanted to let y'all know the timing belt has been done as well as a lot of other things. The truck is running really well but tomorrow it has the throttle position sensor being replaced. I think they're charging me 250 for the work and parts. I just paid 1800 for the timing belt and other maintenance things. I think some of it was BS but I don't know any better and I don't know anyone local to me who can do these kinds of things. Random strangers have no accountability. I'm also suffering the expense of the stealership because I haven't got the skill or the tools to do it myself. At least they have some accountability (however thin it is).

While it's up, we're looking at the springs because the front of the truck rides low and rubs the wheel well. Everything else is right and the shocks seem to be the right kind and size (and they damn well better be for what they cost). The sales rep suggested I skip the springs and only install some risers or some kind of cushion. He said the difference is quite a bit of money. I don't remember exactly what he was quoting but it was really, really high.

    • What should I expect to spend if I do the repair (in my opinion) correctly by replacing the springs?
    • Is his advice good or should I go with my gut and do it right?

Thanks again for all your help and advice.

how many miles on your truck, Paul? if it's getting up there, it might be time to replace the coils. Take a gander through the 1st-gen marketplace here on TW and see if anyone is selling some newer OEM coils. They pop up quite a bit and you can probably snag 'em for cheap. as far as shocks go (if you need them), there are a number of options, depending on if you want to lift it or not. Bilstein 5100s, or Old Man Emu (OME) shocks/springs will probably be your most cost effective choices.

and ouch, $1800 for timing belt?

Ouch. You should find a local TW guy who can work on trucks for less. A TPS should be ~$55 part and two screws.

??? I would find a different shop IMO. What all did they do for the $1800???

Timing belt, water pump, other belts/seals, oil change, etc only cost us about $650 to have the dealer do it all.

And if your springs are that shot, to where you are hitting your fenders.... You need new springs and most likely new shocks. New Moog replacement stock springs are only like $50 for the pair. Riser/cushion?
