So on my way home tonight from moving out of college for the last time... A friggin two tine wate of a buck decided it'd be a good idea to risk it... Needless to say he didn't make it.. At all

Pictures to follow but description first... I was just gettin up to speed after turning onto this road (doin about 35-45 mph) when the stupid shit jumped outa nowhere from my drivers side. I slammed the brakes but not in time to stop, nailed the dear that went spinning around and under the rear wheel of another truck passin me. I'm guessin that guy just didn't care to look cuz he hardly slowed down. I stopped, go out an saw the deer was lucky to still be in one piece (side split completely open by my front end) and then proceeded to check out my truck. After deciding that, luckily, there was no mechanical damage I proceeded to drive home.

    Upon further inspection:

The entire drivers side corner is totaled. Fender flare piece is missing, fender itself is bent outa shape, all the mounting brackets but one on that light are sapped off, the bumper was almost off the truck, luckily the passenger side snapped back into place and held it on, and the grill that I've spent hours modifying also has a snapped lower bracket...

So after all that, anyone know what full coverage at nationwide gets me? I'll be calling tomorrow to see if they cover deer but I'm not exactly hopeful... And also can't afford to repair any of this...

Your insurance should cover it. Did you at least load it up in the bed?

No unfortunately my bed was full of stuff (like my mattress) from college so I had no room for the deer... Plus he was split open real good and shitting everywhere...

Your insurance should cover the damages. Deer are common culprits to messed up front ends.

It could go either way. A buddy of mine nailed a deer a few years back and smashed up the front of his car, complete with chunks of hair everywhere. The little bastard deer got up, shook it off and ran away. Turns out his insurance had a "corpse clause". They would t give him a dime because he didn't kill it. I never thought to ask what insurance company he had. I imagine a big company like nationwide won't give you a problem.

Sorry but I have to laugh at this a little.. First for a "corpse clause", sounds like zombie apocalypse type of thing and second cause I DEFINITELY killed it... I couldn't bring it with me cuz like I said my bed is full but the thing was split wide open.. I had to drag it off the road much to the little lady who stopped dismay (I almost laughed when she shrieked a little as I drug it outa the road, lol

don't know if they really work as I haven't hit a deer yet, but I noticed the deer here where I live really respond to the dual sonic air tweeters I installed on the front bumper, they are cheap ($6.00 at Wallyworld)...they are like ants around here, heck, you can see 'herds' of them eating along side most of the cattle on the ranches....anyway, after installing said tweeters I noticed they look my direction when I pass, where before they ignored my passing..

you might want to install them after you get it fixed...

bummer on the truck, I have been lucky, last summer one jumped in front of my truck on a dark evening, but was quick enough to get past the front before bumper could hit him, happened so fast...scared the krap out of me..

Ya I've seen those things and I've heard testimony both ways... Some people swear by them, some have gotten into more deer wrecks with them... I prob won't bother but I do hope to be able to upgrade to plate front bumper so the next time this happens (hopefully never) I'll cut the damn thing in half and keep on goin with no damage

Sweet! Cuz I definitely can't afford to fix it on my own.. The deductible is one thing but not the total cost!

I agree with you about the deer. I hit one in my Corolla and it took out the right headlight and front fender didn't even get the hood. Got ahold of my insurance company they checked it out cut me a check body shop ordered the parts, then the day before I was to take it in for repair I got the deers big brother. Nice 8 pointer, went back and got the skull. Totaled it that time, but because I hadn't had the car fixed yet I ended up paying 2 deductibles. At least animal hits don't go against your collision to make your rates go up, they're covered by your comprehensive. Got my Tacoma then so it ended up well.

They don't make your rates go up?! Sweet! That was the other thing I was concerned about! And ya.. I would go back for this ones skull if it wasn't a shitty little two spike...

when they tell you to get the quote go to more than one place. and then take the money for the middle to highest and get yourself a plate bumper and new fender.

You could also argue the case with insurance once you get the plate bumper that it will reduce the damage and they may cut you a break. doubtful but doesn't hurt to try

No rate hike. I'm only paying $50 more each 6 months for a 6 year newer double the new price vehicle. I saw a earlier post about a corpse clause.... I had the car towed to my house that night never filled out a report they came out no questions didn't even care where it happened looked at it paid me off even for the tow and I've got a crappy local in-state insurance company. Nationwide should do you right.

I love you all... I was really freakin out when my parents didn't know if it would be covered (none of us have luckily hit a deer in a LONG time so we haven't had to know).... Really feelin much more comfortable with the whole thing now...

Bull bar?! Are you kidding?! You ever seen one of those things after any kind of real impact (deer size or bigger)?!! They're basically just overrated brush guards, e.i., they will protect again small limbs, shrubs, and grass but you hit anything major and forget about your front end... No it'll deff be a plate front end er stock till I can get one...
