Sis's SUV dies after starting

My sister has run into an issue with her 2002 Mitsubishi Montero. It dies after starting. It starts no problem, it has a new battery and alternator (both less than 6 months old) but it keeps dying after it runs for a few minutes. It also does not show any check engine lights when this happens.

Ideas?

 

fuel pump and/or fuel filter? could be a number of things but you have to start checking them off one by one unless you bring it to a shop

 

she's strapped for cash. roommate left her high and dry on the lease and bills (as in just plain disappeared). fuel filter will be her first shot.

 

Check the IAC valve. I had a 3000GT that had a nasty IAC valve that would decide to turn the car off at idle. Either way, you might want to pull it out, check it and make sure it is very clean. Process of elimination, if you don't have fancy voltage readers and stuff. Is it only when she idles or is it as she drives too?

 

Injectors?

 

More info, idling its fine, on accel it dies.

 

John, I would check the air filter first, then the fuel filter.

 

Air filter/ fuel filter/ fuel pump... Sounds like its starving not enough psi from the fuel pump could cause this

 

Agreed. Check that air filter good too because it's possible (nothing is right?) That the a plastic bag could have gotten sucked in and is clogging up airflow. I've seen it happen before!
