Check the dates. For sale ad was posted 8 days ago. One about him being scammed a day ago. This truck has been listed for trade for a bit. The one about him being scammed is the most recent. I wouldn't jump to conclusions on him trying to rip someone off.
I also wouldn't call the guy an idiot. Dude probably heard that tacoma's are good trucks, went to a dealership and they probably told him all kind of lies. Not everyone is obsessed with a truck and can tell you what year/model/engine/package/etc you have just by sniffing the grease left over on a socket after removing the spare tire's lug nut.

Yeah, I agree with you on this. There are a lot of fake "TRD" trucks posted on Craigslist for sale. If youre not into Tacomas you wouldn't be able to spot the fakes. Gotta do your homework before you buy a truck.

This. To be fair he also wouldn't be expecting a dealership to just straight up lie to his face as well. The only reason dealerships exist is because of shady as fuck laws written in to keep them in business. Sad really...

I don't think there is any recourse 3 yrs later and I don't even think the dealership is entirely to blame. This is a 2006 used truck that was probably a new car trade in. The dealer may run the vin and such to make sure it's clear, detail it then put in their used car lot. The salesman goes by what he visually see and sells it as such. Unfortunately, most used car purchase are no warranty, as-is purchase. If it is on the paperwork(I doubt it), the owner probably could have brought it back and the dealership could have worked with him if it was fake TRD and elevated sales price but 3 yrs later, highly doubt it. They could've stated that the owner put the mods and sticker on there and try to con them for the trade in value. The owner should sell it honestly, take off the badges, and take the hit, lesson learned.
