Ok, I'm sure this topic has been brought up before I just can't find it but would someone tell me why when on my 2004 PreRunner, TRD V6 when immediately after applying the brakes say at a stop light it feels like someone bumped me in the rear? My 2006 4Runner limited does the same exact thing...I bought a 2001 Tundra V8 4x2 new and it never did that.....Weird~

IF it was just on the truck I would say it could be axle wrap. However the 4runner is linked and those do not have axle wrap.

This is not what I am experiencing at all...this truck is pristine with 74,000 miles...like you someone said, the 4runner is linked with coil springs...

Try dropping the tranny into neutral before you stop? See if the problem occurs if not I guess that would be it.

Mine does the exact same thing. Come up to a light, brake, wait at stand still, then a sudden lurch feeling.

I did finally nail the problem. It was the AC compressor kicking on and raising RPM's.
It happens in winter time too, if you're using the foot heat/windshield defrost setting...

I finally got a possible answer yesterday when I called one of the Toyota dealers in Virginia Beach, Va. I was lucky enough to talk to one of the techs who admitted it was a problem with the splines on the drive shaft where the rear one goes into the front shaft...they get a little corrosion/rust on them and don't always move just a little in & out which kind of binds up the drive line. He said to pump grease in the fitting near that area until the drive shaft moves in the carrier bearing. I greased all the fittings along the drive shaft and u-joints shortly after purchasing the truck..same with my 2006 4Runner and sometimes it too still exhibits this problem.....I'm not so sure....D

Well I am happy to report not only did greasing the ba jesus out of the fitting where the two shafts are splined together on my Tacoma work but also on the 2006 4Runner...smooth now with none of that prior issue...I greased these points before just not enough...what a difference!
