Sitting around here on Christmas day reading about all these driving modes on my truck (2012 off road). I've read all the threads by David K, and a few others. Starting to grasp everything but one thing I can't find the answer for. I know these threads have been done to death but give me a break! Lol

4hi and pressing VSC off switch once(not holding) what's this mode doing?
It gives you TRAC off and VSC on. But I thought 4hi by default is TRAC off(auto LSD/no engine regulatuon) with VSC on.

Turns off traction control, which cuts power when the wheels slip.

Turns off the traction control - you will be running open diffs, slipping wheels will spin, power will NOT be diverted from the wheel w/ traction to the wheel that slips. Engine ignition will NOT be retarded if wheels slip.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is still activated. If you go into a slide, VSC will attempt to straighten you out.

That answers it, almost lol. "power will not be diverted from the wheel w/ traction to the wheel that slips", Which is what usually happens with open diffs right? In other words power is being diverted from the wheel that slips to the wheel with traction. aka Limited slip? But how is it doing that if the diffs are open and the slipping wheels allowed to spin.

    Merry Christmas!

Reading some more Into the older threads sounds like 2012 and up had the 2WD and 4HI operating the same, trac on or off. Where as the "9 driving modes" of 09-2012 didn't include that. Auto LSD was default, then press and hold and it's all off.

The 4hi with trac and VSC on is what I've always ran ripping on the dirt roads.

Toyota really needs to rename these systems or something. Pretty confusing. I wouldn't want a dial that ses turn for dirt or snow. But right now it's kind of a mess lol
