Hey guys, I have been searching for a company that sells a air intake system that is legal on a 07 toyota tacoma but I am unable to find one, does anyone know of any, or know of something else I could do to my truck that will improve performance?

Changing the intake will not improve the performance. That is nothing but a selling hype to sell the product. If you want to improve performance consider a turbo.

Air intakes sound good when you get on the throttle on our 4.0

If your looking for a performance increase , the intake provides such a minimal gain in HP its Unnoticeable.

Closer to 5000. Again, an intake change will not give you any noticeable gain if your original system is working properly. Such claims are in the heads of people but if checked on a dynamometer there is little to no appreciable increase. These vehicles are controlled by computer, including the air intake, and changing the intake makes little difference except sound, which I admit plays with the mind into thinking more power. The only way it would increase HP is if there was something wrong with your stock unit. There is only so much CFM that can flow into the intake and the stock system accomplishes that as the computer keeps the air/fuel mixture at the correct level unless the intake is damaged.

The only other way to get an increase with an intake change is if the original intake is taking in warm or hot air from the engine instead of colder air from the outside or cooled air. Cold air is better because it will expand more when it combusts. The warmer the air, the less it will expand when in the pistons. Therefore, chilling air allows for the maximum combustion, which in turn will create more power. For every eleven degrees of temperature drop, you receive a corresponding increase of one horsepower and better MPG. So if your truck is taking in heated air from the engine instead of outside air then a cold air intake might increase the HP, but that also means there is something wrong with your original system to be getting that much heated air. Even if you could get a 10HP increase with a intake change, and you won't, you would not able to feel it. I seriously doubt that a 10HP increase would shave off more then 1/10 of a second in a 0 to 60 MPH run. Do your own test. Do a run with the air conditioner off and one with the air on. You will not feel a difference. The same with changing the air intake.

Keep this in mind. If these claims about changing the intakes would increase HP they would also increase MPG. The manufacturers are under federal mandate to increase their MPG and if these things worked on stock vehicles every manufacturer would be using them.

One last thing. While systems like K&N have a name, the filters do not protect the engine like the OME ones. That means your vehicle can suffer early failure. There are a couple threads on this with stats if you want to search for them.

So like I said if you want more performance, real performance, you will have to go with a turbo, but you will lose MPG if you are into the boost much and have to use premium gas. HP gain is not what you want if you want to have performance. Torque is what you need and an air intake change will not give you that.

You'll notice in your research here(that I found as well) that an aftermarket intakes don't have any gains(if noticeable). Most of the people here are going to tell you to keep the stock intake. Keep off the gas, under 2000 rpms. Check your PSI on your tires etc.
