Hey guys. We lost heat in our 1996 Tacoma a few weeks ago. I flushed the heater core and it was already clean. I then found this broken stud under the dash below the stereo area. It is essentially a pivot for the cable/brackets that adjust cold-hot at the climate control. I have had zero luck at dealerships or other forums on finding this part or having ideas to fix it.... have any of you guys had this happen??

Also, in the 2nd pic the bracket on the right is now temporarily zip tied over to get heat but it is only hot at the feet...at the face and defrost is barely luke warm. Any ideas? This is getting old fast as it has been -30C (-22F) here....

Just manually push the bracket till you get to the setting you want and then hunt for a part.

can you just pull the stud out and go match it at a decent parts store? Looks like you just need a stud or bolt.

    Well I figured it out.

The plastic stud that broke was operating the foam flapper door that blocks the heater core when the temp is set on Cold. When it broke it was in the Cold closed position thus not allowing any hot air through the system.

I think it broke because of all the crap stuck between the foam door and the heater core ( pine needles, hair, a chunk of broken blower motor resistor) causing tension on the stud and it broke. I JB welded it back together and am hoping for the best!
