About 2 years ago the car would start up then die back down sometimes during the winter. Fixed itself and went away for a while. Now it's back. Turn ignition key to start engine and engine will idle up (revs up if on gas) then dies back down. If before the car dies I flip the ignition switch (key) to off then back on the car will rev back up again. The dash works but I notice the RPM gauge on the cluster doesnt rise and it says the engine is at operating temp (it's a cold engine). It appears to be an electrical issue. It also will sometimes go away on it's own after a few key turns and the car runs fine.

The car is a 96 Pontiac Grand Am
